About Jetbro
Jetbro is a technology consulting and systems integration firm that builds reliable, scalable digital systems for organizations where technology is central to operations. We work across custom product development, enterprise applications, and infrastructure-led digital transformation for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to high-growth startups across India, Australia, and Canada.
Our philosophy is simple: build systems that work quietly, predictably, and under pressure. We value clarity over complexity and reliability over noise.
About the Role
We are looking for an Elixir Developer to join our team building backend services for scalable, production-grade applications. This is not a role where you simply execute PRDs. Instead, you will be a business-minded engineer who deeply understands the product use cases, business objectives, and strategic implications of technical decisions.
You will design and extend backend services using the Ash Framework, working across resources, actions, and data layers to ship features fast without sacrificing correctness. Our backend is Elixir/Phoenix with Ash as the core application framework, backed by PostgreSQL, deployed on Fly.io. You will spend most of your time inside Ash's resource-oriented patterns rather than hand-rolling boilerplate.
This is a framework-deep role with a business-first mindset. You will actively collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders, and leadership to understand the why behind features, ask clarifying questions, and contribute to strategic technical decisions. You will use AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as everyday tools, and you'll also work hands-on with LLM APIs (Claude, Gemini) to build AI-powered features, not just use AI to write code. We expect you to be proficient with them, not just familiar.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Product Collaboration:
- Work closely with product managers and business stakeholders to understand use cases, market context, and business objectives before diving into technical implementation
- Ask critical questions about business impact, trade-offs, and long-term implications of technical decisions
- Communicate technical constraints, risks, and opportunities in business-friendly language to non-technical stakeholders
- Contribute to architectural and strategic decisions by providing context on how technical choices affect business outcomes
Technical Design & Development:
- Design and build Ash resources, actions, calculations, and policies for core product features with a deep understanding of their business purpose
- Write clean, testable Elixir code following OTP and Phoenix conventions
- Build interactive, real-time UI where needed using Phoenix LiveView
- Design and maintain PostgreSQL schemas, migrations, and query performance with business scalability in mind
- Build and extend APIs (GraphQL/REST via AshGraphql/AshJsonApi or Phoenix controllers) that serve real production traffic
AI & Advanced Features:
- Integrate LLM APIs (Claude, Gemini) and vector databases into product features (semantic search, embeddings, retrieval-based workflows)
- Use AI coding assistants effectively to accelerate development without sacrificing code quality
- Understand the business implications of AI-powered features and their impact on user experience and product strategy
Operations & Ownership:
- Instrument features with product analytics (PostHog) to track usage and inform iteration
- Maintain Docker-based dev containers for a consistent, reproducible local development setup
- Deploy, monitor, and scale services on Fly.io
- Own features end-to-end: from understanding requirements and business context to deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement
- Participate in production debugging, monitoring, and performance tuning with an eye toward business impact
Team & Process:
- Collaborate with frontend engineers, QA, product managers, and project leads in a cross-functional environment
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architecture decisions with a focus on business value
- Champion clear thinking and ownership mindset within the engineering team
What You'll Work On
- Resource-driven backend architecture using Ash (resources, actions, relationships, policies, calculations, aggregates)
- Workflow logic, versioning, and multi-step business processes modeled declaratively in Ash
- Real-time, interactive features built with Phoenix LiveView
- Vector DB-backed features such as semantic search, embeddings storage, and retrieval-augmented workflows
- Background jobs and async processing (Oban or similar)
- Database design, query optimization, and migrations in PostgreSQL
- Integration with third-party services and internal microservices
- Local development standardized via Docker and dev containers
- Deployment, release management, and scaling on Fly.io
- Production debugging, monitoring, and performance tuning
Tech Stack
- Languages: Elixir
- Frameworks: Phoenix, Phoenix LiveView, Ash Framework (AshPostgres, AshGraphql/AshJsonApi, Ash Authentication as applicable)
- Databases: PostgreSQL, Vector DB (pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar)
- AI/LLM: Claude, Gemini (API-level integration), Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar
- Analytics: PostHog
- Infrastructure: Fly.io, Docker, Dev Containers, CI/CD pipelines
- Other: Oban/background jobs, GraphQL/REST APIs, Git
Requirements
Who is this Role for?
This role is a great fit if you:
Technical Foundation:
- Have hands-on experience with Elixir, and specifically the Ash Framework (not just Phoenix alone)
- Understand Ash's resource/action/policy model well enough to extend it, not just follow existing patterns
- Have built real-time or interactive features with Phoenix LiveView
- Have worked with vector databases and understand embeddings, similarity search, and retrieval patterns
- Have integrated LLM APIs (Claude, Gemini, or similar) into production features, not just used them as coding tools
- Are comfortable using product analytics tools like PostHog to inform engineering decisions\
- Are comfortable working in Docker-based dev container environments
- Have experience deploying and operating applications on Fly.io (or similar platforms)
- Actively use AI coding assistants and understand their strengths and limits
- Care about writing code that other people can read and maintain
Business & Collaboration Mindset:
- Genuinely enjoy understanding the business context behind features, not just executing specifications
- Are comfortable asking "why" and challenging assumptions to ensure decisions align with business goals
- Have experience collaborating with product, business, and non-technical stakeholders
- Can translate between technical and business language effectively
- Enjoy working on systems that serve real users at real scale and care about user impact
- Demonstrate ownership mindset: you think about long-term implications, not just shipping code
- Learn fast and don't need to be told twice
- Are curious about how your work affects the broader business and product strategy
What we care more about than your resume
- Real Ash Framework experience > general Elixir/Phoenix experience alone
- Business acumen and product thinking > years of experience
- Communication and collaboration skills > individual technical prowess
- AI-fluency (both as a coding tool and as a feature you build) > years of experience
- Clear thinking and strategic mindset > buzzwords
- Ownership mindset and business impact focus > following instructions
- Side projects, experiments, GitHub repos, or well-documented failures are a big plus
Bonus
- Experience with AshAdmin, AshStateMachine, or AshPaperTrail
- Experience building RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) pipelines
- Exposure to observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, or similar)
- Experience in product-driven or cross-functional engineering environments
- Familiarity with Specification-Driven Development (SDD) or similar methodologies
