Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of programming experience in C++.
  • 3 years of experience in architecting and developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems (storage, databases etc).
  • Experience with cloud databases, performance optimization, and benchmarking.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • Experience designing and developing relational databases, database internals, query processing and query optimization.
  • Experience building transaction processing systems (OLTP) or larger scale analytics (OLAP).
  • Experience building data warehousing systems (e.g., Spark, BigQuery).
  • Experience in code and system health, diagnosis and resolution, and software test engineering.

We work closely with internal and external customers to ensure analytic queries scale and perform on exabytes of data.

Key to success on the Spanner team are to be an effective collaborator and to balance learning with continued progress on deliverables. You will learn about Spanner's query engine and collaborate with experts in the areas of storage, transaction processing, scheduling etc.

  • Write product or system development code.
  • Participate in or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide on the available technologies.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues.
