Full description

We believe that the Netherlands should become more sustainable and innovative. Fortunately, there are many entrepreneurs with strong plans for the future. Invest-NL is here to finance those plans and help turn them into reality. We do this with courage, decisiveness, and enthusiasm. Will you join us?

To strengthen our Data & AI team, we are looking for a Data Engineer.

About the role

As a data engineer you will help our development team with (re)building our data infrastructure, which will be the single source of trust for advanced analytics, AI integrations, reporting and BI.

The Data & AI team is still growing and currently consists of eight team members including a Team Lead, a Data Scientist, a Data Engineer, a BI Analyst, a PowerBI Developer, an AI Integration Manager and two Working Students.

This is what you will do

As a Data Engineer in the Data & AI team, you own the design and implementation of the data layer that will serve as Invest-NL's single source of trust — the foundation for analytics, AI, reporting and BI across the organisation. You work at the intersection of tech and business, translating how our investment teams actually use data into robust, well-modelled infrastructure. Concretely, you will:

  • Design and build our core data models, making deliberate choices that keep them resilient as source systems and business definitions evolve;
  • Develop and operate reliable ELT/ETL pipelines on our Azure and Databricks stack;
  • Shape the data architecture together with the team;
  • Embed data governance in practice — lineage, quality, and clear business ownership — so the data layer is genuinely trusted;
  • Mentoring junior/medior peers.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years in data engineering with demonstrable ownership of end-to-end pipelines from design through production; with strong SQL experience;
  • Strong data modelling skills;
  • Proficient in Python for data engineering (orchestration, transformation, testing);
  • Solid experience on a major cloud platform, Azure preferred; hands-on with Databricks and ADF or equivalent;
  • Working grasp of data governance in practice: lineage, quality, and clear ownership;
  • Git and collaborative workflows; comfortable in a scrum team;
  • Experience integrating LLM APIs into data products or pipelines;
  • Fluent English (Dutch a plus).

We offer

As a data engineer within the Data & AI team at Invest-NL, you will work together with a passionate team on building a better future. You can count on a pleasant and open working environment, inspiring work, and plenty of room to develop yourself. Our employment conditions are also attractive:

  • Salary: between €4.500-€5.900 per month based on a 36-hour workweek;
  • Flexible compensation: A Benefit Budget worth 20.95% of your monthly salary. This consists of 8% holiday allowance, 8.33% year-end bonus, and a personal budget of 4.615% representing above-statutory leave (86.4 hours per year based on a 36-hour workweek);
  • Leave: Attractive and flexible leave arrangements;
  • From A to Sustainable: Sustainable mobility policy, including private use of public transport;
  • For the future: A solid pension plan (including a 2% personal contribution and a high employer contribution, depending on age, ranging from approximately 15% to 35%);
  • Room for social impact: Up to 2 Impact Days per year for volunteer work during working hours;
  • And although not an employment condition, certainly just as important: driven colleagues to work with. Shared lunches twice a week, fun outings, and sporting activities (such as Cycling 4 Climate and padel tournaments).
