Be Here. Be Great. Working for a leader in the insurance industry means opportunity for you. Great American Insurance Group's member companies are subsidiaries of American Financial Group. We combine a "small company" culture where your ideas will be heard with "big company" expertise to help you succeed. With over 30 specialty and property and casualty operations, there are always opportunities here to learn and grow.

At Great American, we value and recognize the benefits derived when people with different backgrounds and experiences work together to achieve business results. Our goal is to create a workplace where all employees feel included, empowered, and enabled to perform at their best.

This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

We’re hiring a Technical Business Analyst to join our Emerging Technology & Innovation team. This high-ownership role is ideal for someone who can turn ambiguity into direction, research emerging capabilities, and help move early-stage ideas into structured opportunities, product backlogs, and scalable technology-enabled solutions.

The role works at the intersection of business insight, technical analysis, and product direction, with a focus on AI, automation, cognitive intelligence, IoT, property intelligence, digital image forensics, and inspection technologies. This individual will help identify opportunities, evaluate emerging technologies, guide Proofs of Value (PoVs), and support the transition of validated concepts into scalable business capabilities and enterprise solutions.

Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. This is a hybrid role that combines in-office and remote work. Employees are expected to maintain a meaningful on-site presence to support collaboration, relationship building, and business success.

Key Responsibilities

Discovery, Research & Product Planning

  • Engage business stakeholders to understand workflows, challenges, and opportunities for technology-enabled improvement.
  • Research emerging technologies, vendor capabilities, and market trends to identify practical innovation opportunities.
  • Translate broad ideas into clear problem statements, opportunity briefs, user stories, process flows, and actionable backlog items.
  • Lead opportunities from initial concept and Proof of Value (PoV) through evaluation, business case development, and transition into scalable product, platform, and operational solutions.
  • Continuously monitor emerging technology trends, startup ecosystems, vendor innovation, and industry developments while helping maintain and evolve the Emerging Technology Radar to support strategic planning and investment decisions.

Technical Collaboration & Delivery Support

  • Partner with product, engineering, architecture, data, automation, vendor, and business teams to define MVP scope, requirements, dependencies, and success measures.
  • Support pilots, Proofs of Value (PoVs), and implementations from concept through launch, helping guide successful initiatives from experimentation into enterprise-scale adoption while maintaining alignment to business value, operational outcomes, and user needs.
  • Use AI-supported analysis, structured visuals, and practical recommendations to help stakeholders evaluate emerging capabilities and solution fit.
  • Facilitate collaboration across stakeholders to remove ambiguity, align priorities, and ensure technology initiatives deliver measurable business outcomes.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Coursework or certifications in business analysis, product management, agile methodologies, or user-centered design are a plus.

Experience

  • 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, Product Analyst, or similar role, preferably in Property & Casualty insurance.
  • Experience translating ambiguous business needs into actionable requirements, product direction, and delivery-ready backlog content.
  • Experience participating in or leading Proofs of Value (PoVs), pilot programs, innovation initiatives, or emerging technology evaluations, including helping transition successful concepts into production-ready capabilities.
  • Strong collaboration skills across business, product, technical, and vendor teams in agile environments.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools, research methods, and platforms such as Rally, Power BI, Visio, or similar tools is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to connect emerging technologies to practical business problems and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong aptitude for evaluating emerging technologies, identifying business applicability, and communicating recommendations regarding experimentation, adoption, scaling, or retirement.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, driving clarity, and taking ownership in a fast-paced innovation environment.
  • Curious, self-directed, and creative in applying AI, automation, data, imagery, and emerging technologies to real business challenges.
