Company Description

Hidden Champion – that not only describes ELATEC as a company, but also our RFID readers. Hardly anyone notices them, yet they are everywhere: at the office entrance, the printer, the elevator, or the EV charging station. With more than 35 years of experience, we are a technology leader and, in selected segments, even a global market leader. As part of Allegion plc., we combine the agility of a mid-sized company with global reach.

Job Description

In this role, you will be responsible for the continuous development of our current reader platform, with a strong focus on new credentials, communication interfaces, and cybersecurity. You will work on established embedded products and contribute to their long-term evolution in alignment with the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

  • Firmware Development – Develop and maintain firmware for our existing reader platform in C, ensuring stability, compatibility, and long-term maintainability.
  • Credentials – Integrate and validate new RFID and authentication technologies to address evolving product and customer requirements.
  • Communication Interfaces – Implement and enhance wired and wireless communication interfaces, ensuring reliable interoperability with host systems and peripheral devices.
  • Hardware Interaction – Analyze and debug firmware directly on target hardware, including bring-up activities, troubleshooting, and verification of hardware-related behavior.
  • Platform Maintenance – Maintain low-level firmware components, including drivers, middleware, and application-related modules within a bare-metal environment.
  • Testing – Implement methods for unit and integration testing, including the use of other programming languages such as C# or Python.
  • Secure Communication – Define and implement secure authentication, credential handling, and interface protection concepts across the existing product platform.
  • Cybersecurity – Contribute to technical measures that improve product security and support compliance with the requirements of the European Cyber Resilience Act.

Qualifications

  • Education – You hold a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable qualification.
  • Embedded Experience – You have several years of experience in embedded firmware development using C.
  • Microcontrollers – You have strong experience developing software for 32-bit microcontroller platforms. Hands-on experience with STM32 microcontrollers is highly preferred.
  • Bare-Metal Systems – You have hands-on experience with embedded systems without an operating system and understand the constraints of resource-limited platforms.
  • Debugging – You are proficient in debugging and troubleshooting on target hardware using common development and laboratory tools.
  • Communication Protocols – You have experience working with communication interfaces and protocols in embedded environments.
  • Secure Development – You understand the principles of secure product development and have an interest in cybersecurity requirements for embedded devices.
  • Nice to Have – Experience with RFID, NFC, Secure Elements, cryptographic concepts, or cybersecurity-related regulatory requirements is considered a plus.
