We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, generating results that allow our clients to thrive.
What You'll Do
In a world where data is critical to BCG's success, we are building first-class, foundational data capabilities and products that enable better decision-making, generate new insights, and drive operational excellence across the firm. Within this vision, LEAP is building BCG's new Learning Functional Data product to power the firm's learning and development needs with trusted, well-integrated data.
We are looking for a Chapter Lead & Manager – Data Engineering to lead the Data Engineering and Data Ingestion function within LEAP. You will define the standards and guardrails for how we build, create strategic and well-constructed data pipelines aligned to our enterprise-wide data strategy, and grow a high-performing team that delivers the most important data ingestion, integration and analytics use cases for the Learning Functional Data product.
Reporting to the Technical Team Lead (TTL) of LEAP, you will lead a team of 5–10 external Data Engineers and Data Ingestion Engineers across the delivery lifecycle, and partner closely with Chapter Leads in other squads, as well as the QA and Business Analysis (BA) teams, to deliver against squad commitments.
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 5–10 external Data Engineers and Data Ingestion Engineers, managing capacity, performance, and technical growth.
- Define data engineering standards, best practices, and guardrails for the chapter, and ensure they are consistently adopted across the squad.
- Design and build scalable, secure, and well-integrated data pipelines and ingestion frameworks in line with the enterprise-wide data strategy.
- Partner with the QA team to reduce defect leakage, improve release quality, and reduce time to fix defects.
- Partner with the BA team to translate business and functional requirements into robust technical solutions for the Learning Functional Data product.
- Collaborate with Chapter Leads across other squads to align on shared standards, promote reuse, and balance business needs against technical priorities.
- Increase sprint velocity through modern engineering practices such as DevSecOps, CI/CD, and cloud-oriented delivery.
- Contribute towards hands-on design, development, and code review, acting as a technical role model for the team.
What You'll Bring
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Sciences, or a related field.
- 12+ years of relevant IT experience with a major focus on data engineering / data-related projects, preferably in large international organisations, including several years leading and managing engineering teams.
Functional/Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience designing and building scalable data pipelines and ingestion frameworks.
- Strong SQL and ETL/ELT experience (e.g., DBT, Talend, FiveTran, or similar).
- Experience with cloud data platforms and warehouses such as Snowflake, AWS, and/or Azure.
- Experience leading Agile development teams and reviewing design and implementation against quality standards.
- Experienced in software/data delivery including CI/CD and related DevSecOps practices on cloud-based platforms.
- Solid understanding of data modelling, data quality, testing, diagnostics, and performance tuning.
- Ability to develop process documentation, technical manuals, and standards.
- Familiar with Scrum and Kanban delivery methodologies and cross-functional Agile teams (Product Owners, QA, BA, Architects, data SMEs).
Who You'll Work With
The Chapter Lead & Manager – Data Engineering is a position within LEAP, part of BCG's digital products organisation. Reporting to the Technical Team Lead (TTL) of LEAP, you will lead a team of external Data Engineers and Data Ingestion Engineers and work closely with the QA team, the Business Analysis (BA) team, Product Owners, and Chapter Leads across other squads to deliver the Learning Functional Data product.
