Senior Java / Back-End Software Engineer

The Software Engineer is a professional in object-oriented programing with expertise in back-end technologies such as Java, relational databases, non-relational databases, MVC server-side frameworks, XML, JSON, REST services, micro-services. A software developer can work on several projects providing solutions that follow best practices. An academic background on software engineering is preferred.

Key Responsibilities 

• Create technical and functional/end-user operational documentation for the software or system

• Provide application/technical support as needed.

• Provide primary support toward installation of application releases into production as directed.

• Work with team members to gather and interpret user/system requirements into design specifications

• Design and code applications to functional and technical programming standards

• Develop system specifications and interfaces for complex components

• Validate the design with the stakeholders to ensure that the design satisfies the requirements.

• Design the application user interfaces, classes, and components

• Configure, build, and test the application or technical architecture components.

• Inform the technical architect and project manager of any issues that may affect any other areas of the project.

• Fix any defects and performance problems discovered in testing.

• Create operational documentation for the application

• Analyze, design, build, and/or test new components or enhancements to existing modules

• Anticipate, identify, track and resolve issues and risks affecting the software or system.

Basic Qualifications:

• At least 4 years of proven experience as a software engineer working in the implementation of web solutions (web sites or service interfaces).

• Academic background related to computer science.

• Strong knowledge of MVC frameworks or web service engines libraries like Spring Boot, Quarkus and understanding on how to efficiently build web pages or SOAP/REST services.

• Understanding of the HTTP stateless nature and how to handle user data and sessions using cookies and external storage.

• Experience consuming external data sources (databases, or other services) efficiently.

• Experience optimizing databases queries for performance and reduce resources usage.

• Experience troubleshooting applications by debugging and reading log files.

• Experience with security best practices to prevent attacks and exploits

• Experience with service authentication to handle user related information.

• Experience with code quality tools and their impact on the deliverables.

• Experience working in agile projects and play an active role during daily, planning and retrospective meetings.

• Experience working on enterprise projects, following defined guidelines by architects and product owners.

• Experience with peer review methodologies and their importance for the projects quality. It is expected for Level 10 to be reviewers.

• Experience coaching new developers in the team and be a point of contact for technical doubts.

• Advanced English skills: writing, reading and speaking.

• Minimum required education: High School Diploma.

Skills

• Strong Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) foundations: encapsulation, abstraction, inheritance and polymorphism.

• Strong knowledge of server-side development languages: Java, Kotlin.

• Advanced knowledge and experience with MVC frameworks: Spring MVC, Quarkus, and similar.

• Experience with Web Services engines: Spring Boot, Micronaut, Quarkus, etc.

• Experience with REST / SOAP interfaces definition and usage.

• Strong knowledge of relational databases using SQL language: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, Oracle.

• Knowledge of non-relational databases: MongoDB, Cassandran, CouchDB, Hypertable, Elastic Search.

• Strong knowledge of development life cycles: Iterative, Cascade, Prototype, Agile, XP, Spiral, etc.

• Experience with client-side integration with MVC frameworks and service interfaces.

• Knowledge of HTML5, CSS and JavaScript

• Knowledge of JavaScript libraries and frameworks

• Knowledge of maintaining software application and executing activities like monitoring, defect fixing and debugging.

• SOA (Service Oriented Architecture).

• Experience with application security and how to protect the code against attacks.

• Experience with service authentication handling to retrieve user specific information.

• Experience with performance optimization and detection of bottlenecks.

• Experience working with DevOps workflows and tools.

• Experience with Unified Modeling Language (UML), Entity – Relation Diagrams, Flow Diagrams, Master Technical Documents, etc.

• Design Patterns: Model View Controller (MVC), Inversion of Control (IoC), Decorator, Delegate, Façade, Singleton, Prototype. Composite, Factory and similar.

• Basic experience with Unit Testing with tools like JUnit or TestNG.

• Understanding of cloud computing (Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Rackspace, Oracle Cloud, etc.)
