Job Summary: The Senior Backend Engineer (Python/AWS) is responsible for designing and building scalable backend systems and cloud-native services that power internal products and customer-facing solutions. This role owns system architecture and integration design across multiple internal and external systems, translates business requirements into reliable, maintainable technical solutions, and provides technical mentorship to other engineers.

What does a day in the life of a Senior Backend Engineer (Python/AWS) look like?

• Design and develop scalable backend applications and services using Python.

• Design system architectures that integrate multiple internal and third-party systems.

• Decompose complex business problems into well-defined services with clear ownership and boundaries.

• Design and build REST APIs and backend services.

• Design robust domain models, reusable components, and maintainable software abstractions.

• Build reliable data ingestion and transformation pipelines.

• Design integration patterns that ensure reliable communication between systems, including error handling, retries, and data consistency.

• Develop cloud-native applications using AWS services.

• Translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technical solutions.

• Troubleshoot production issues across application and cloud infrastructure layers.

• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews.

• Mentor engineers by promoting sound software design and engineering best practices.

• Collaborate closely with Product, Data, AI, and Engineering teams.

• Adhere to company policies and procedures

• Meet or exceed performance targets for related KPIs

• Continuously improve knowledge of backend architecture, cloud infrastructure, and software engineering best practices through training and learning initiatives

• Collaborate with other departments as needed

• Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers and colleagues at all times

• Perform other duties as assigned

What are the required qualifications of a Senior Backend Engineer (Python/AWS)?

• Minimum of five (5) years of professional software engineering experience, with strong experience developing backend applications using Python.

• Strong understanding of software architecture and distributed system design, including designing scalable systems with well-defined service boundaries.

• Experience designing domain models that accurately represent complex business processes.

• Experience integrating multiple APIs and third-party systems, and designing and building REST APIs.

• Strong understanding of integration architecture, including data contracts, synchronization strategies, retries, and fault tolerance.

• Experience building or supporting data ingestion and transformation pipelines, with an understanding of data modeling and mapping concepts.

• Experience with AWS cloud services, ideally including serverless application development (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch).

• Experience designing event-driven or asynchronous processing workflows.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical direction.
