About this Role
The Assistant Technical Writer supports the Engineering organization by drafting, editing, and formatting technical documents, proposals, job descriptions, standard operating procedures, and other written deliverables. This entry-level role is well suited to a developing writer who wants to build a career in technical and engineering communications, working closely with engineering, proposals, and business operations teams to ensure documents are clear, consistent, and professionally presented.
What You'll Do
Duties
- Drafts, edits, and proofreads technical documents, job descriptions, proposals, reports, and internal communications for clarity, grammar, and consistency
- Supports the Engineering and Proposals teams with formatting, styling, and version control of written deliverables
- Maintains and applies document templates and style guides to ensure a consistent voice and format across deliverables
- Assists in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal reference materials
- Coordinates with subject matter experts across engineering disciplines to translate technical content into clear, well-organized writing
- Supports layout, formatting, and light graphic coordination for proposals and presentations
- Proofreads and quality-checks documents prior to distribution or submission
- Brings potential document or process-related issues, along with possible solutions, to the attention of the responsible party
- Takes personal responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and professionalism of all written work product
What You'll Bring
Required Experience and Education
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, or other relevant writing discipline
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Willingness to work onsite at one of our existing engineering offices, preferably Spokane, WA; Portland, OR; or Boise, ID
Competencies & Skills
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with excellent attention to detail
- Any relevant publications or published writing samples are a plus
- Prior experience in a technical, engineering, or corporate writing environment
- Familiarity with AP style or other formal technical writing standards
Travel Requirements
- Travel: Minimal- up to 5% of the time, as needed for coordination with engineering offices
