About the role.

We are looking for a Food Safety & Quality Manager to lead the end-to-end food safety and quality management of McCain’s co-manufactured portfolio and third-party logistics network across ANZ.

In this role, you’ll ensure our co-manufacturing partners, co-packers, external warehouses, logistics providers, packaging suppliers and related supply partners consistently meet McCain, customer, regulatory and import requirements. From supplier approval and risk assessment through to auditing, product qualification, incident management and continuous improvement, you’ll play a key role in protecting product quality, food safety and customer trust.

 

You’ll work closely with Procurement, R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Customer Quality and external partners to drive strong supplier performance, robust compliance and best-practice quality outcomes.

 

This role can be based in either Ballarat or Melbourne, with regular travel required between the two locations.

 

What you’ll be doing.

  • Lead food safety and quality approval, auditing and performance management of co-manufacturers, co-packers, warehouses and third-party logistics providers across ANZ.
  • Manage supplier risk assessment programs, ensuring compliance with McCain, customer, regulatory and import requirements.
  • Drive supplier qualification, audit programs, corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support new product development, commercialization, product trials and change management activities.
  • Lead investigations and resolution of quality incidents, complaints and food safety risks across the external supply network.
  • Oversee biosecurity, traceability and export compliance requirements.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to improve supplier performance, strengthen quality systems and deliver best-practice FSQ outcomes.

 

What you’ll need to be successful.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Technology or a related technical discipline is desired.
  • Minimum 7 years’ progressive experience in food manufacturing, food safety, quality assurance, supplier quality or co-manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing supplier quality programs, co-manufacturers, co-packers, packaging suppliers and third-party logistics providers.
  • Strong knowledge of Food Safety and Quality Management Systems, including HACCP, HARPC, GMP and GFSI standards such as BRCGS, SQF, FSSC 22000 or IFS.
  • Experience with supplier risk assessments, specification management, ingredient and packaging approval, product release and quality documentation systems.
  • Knowledge of food microbiology, foodborne pathogens, allergens, sanitation, hygienic design, preventive controls and food safety risk methodologies.
  • Understanding of biosecurity programs, export compliance, traceability systems and manufacturing declaration processes.
  • Lead Auditor qualification or equivalent auditing certification is preferred.
  • Experience conducting supplier, co-manufacturer, packaging, warehouse or logistics audits.
  • Proficiency in SAP, PLM, Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Teams and supplier quality management systems.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication and stakeholder influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while building trusted relationships across internal teams and external supplier networks.
  • Willingness to travel and support operational requirements as needed.

 

About the team.

This role sits within the ANZ Food Safety & Quality team and reports to the Supplier Quality Manager ANZ. You’ll work as part of a highly connected quality network, partnering closely with Procurement, R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Customer Quality and external suppliers to support the safe and compliant delivery of McCain products and services across ANZ.

 

While this role does not have direct people management responsibilities, it provides important technical leadership across co-manufacturing, supplier quality, packaging, biosecurity, warehousing and logistics programs. You’ll also support the Regional Supplier Quality Manager and may act as a proxy when required.
