We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer to lead the design and development of a critical cloud-native backend system as part of a strategic initiative to modernise a large-scale legacy application.

YOUR CHALLENGE

• Lead a complete re-architecture using modern Java technologies, primarily Spring Boot
• Build scalable, resilient services from the ground up
• Develop and operate high-throughput, distributed systems in a cloud environment
• Leverage cutting-edge practices, including AI-assisted development tools, to accelerate delivery without compromising quality
• Apply deep expertise in enterprise-grade Java backends, cloud platforms, and performance optimisation
• Act as a technical leader in complex transformation programmes

YOUR PROFILE

• 8+ years of experience in server-side Java development, ideally within financial or other regulated, high-performance domains
• Deep proficiency in Java 21+ and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security, Spring Cloud)
• Expertise in designing high-throughput, low-latency systems using asynchronous processing, message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ), and caching (Redis, Caffeine)
• Experience with workflow and BPMN frameworks (Flowable, Camunda) or streaming/analytics platforms (TIBCO StreamBase, Spotfire)
• Hands-on experience building, operating, and refactoring cloud-native microservices on AWS, Azure, or GCP, including migrating monolithic systems
• Proficiency with containers (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), service mesh, and cloud storage and services
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and gRPC services, including protocol buffers, streaming, and polyglot integration
• Expertise in securing APIs and services using OAuth2, JWT, TLS, and identity providers
• Proficiency in application observability using Micrometer and OpenTelemetry for metrics, distributed tracing, and contextual logging
• Practical exposure to AI-assisted development workflows and integrating generative AI tools into IDEs and code reviews
• Experience working within the Markets and/or Trading business domain would be preferred
• Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to articulate technical trade-offs to peers and stakeholders
• Proactive collaborator in agile, cross-functional teams, experienced in mentoring junior engineers
• Business-fluent English (C1/2)
