Python Developer, Assistance Vice President

Citi is hiring a Senior Python Developer (Applications Development Sr. Programmer Analyst - C12) with a focus on Generative AI. This hands-on engineering role offers the opportunity to build and deliver production-grade Python applications that enhance how one of the world's leading financial institutions develops and scales technology solutions. You will work on complex, distributed systems and help drive the adoption of AI-powered capabilities across the organization.

Working within an Agile team alongside a Team Lead, you will be a hands-on contributor responsible for sprint-level delivery while maintaining a high standard of technical excellence across the team. As a code-contributing member, you will design, develop, and support scalable solutions, partnering with engineers and stakeholders to deliver technology that has a direct and measurable business impact.

 

Responsibilities

• Build scalable, high-performance Python applications that meet production standards for reliability, maintainability, and code quality.
• Design and develop secure RESTful APIs and integration patterns that connect services across distributed, enterprise-scale systems.
• Collaborate with engineers to shape system architecture decisions, contributing to a solution design that is robust and built to last.
• Deploy and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions to support reliable, repeatable software delivery.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and engineering tools to identify where adoption would meaningfully improve team capability or product quality.
• Contribute actively to Agile sprint delivery, working to meet team commitments through clean, well-tested, and well-documented code.
• Identify technical and operational risks within the development lifecycle and escalate issues clearly to protect solution integrity and compliance standards.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 5 or more years of progressive software development experience with a substantial, demonstrated focus on Python, including advanced use of frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
• Deep expertise in software architecture principles and distributed system design patterns, including Microservices and Event-Driven Architecture, applied within object-oriented development contexts.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization using Docker, and container orchestration using Kubernetes.
• Practical knowledge of both relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis), including query design and performance considerations.
• Solid grounding in secure coding practices, including familiarity with OWASP Top 10 principles, data encryption, and access control mechanisms.
• Experience delivering complex software projects end to end, from initial design through to production deployment, managing scope and timelines effectively.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant technical field.

 

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with AI and machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn, applied within software development or data pipeline contexts.
• Practical use of Generative AI tools and models — including Claude, Gemini, GPT, Copilot, or Devin — to accelerate development workflows or build AI-assisted features.
• Experience working with Agentic AI frameworks, including writing agents and constructing agentic workflows that automate or enhance engineering processes.
• Experience with Java development within enterprise application contexts adds breadth to complex system integration scenarios.
• Understanding of financial services regulatory requirements and compliance standards, providing useful context for solution design within a regulated environment.
