Role Summary

The Senior Data Engineer designs and owns scalable data pipelines and platform solutions that support reporting, analytics, and operational processes. This role leads delivery for complex initiatives, improves data quality and reliability, works independently through ambiguity, and mentors junior engineers while partnering closely with stakeholders.

Core Skills

  • Strong expertise in data querying, coding, data modeling, orchestration, and performance optimization
  • Deep understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and scalable data architecture
  • Experience designing reliable and maintainable data pipelines for reporting, analytics, and operational use cases
  • Strong understanding of data quality, observability, troubleshooting, and production support
  • Ability to balance technical decisions across scalability, reliability, maintainability, and cost efficiency
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and own scalable data pipelines and related platform components
  • Lead development and delivery of complex data engineering initiatives from design through production
  • Improve data quality, reliability, observability, and operational readiness across owned systems
  • Design and implement maintainable data models and processing logic aligned to business needs
  • Resolve ambiguous technical problems with sound judgment and limited oversight
  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks across queries, pipelines, and processing workflows
  • Mentor junior engineers through design guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
  • Partner closely with Analytics Engineers, QA Engineers, stakeholders, and leadership on priorities, tradeoffs, and delivery planning
  • Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and continuous improvement across the team
  • Ensure solutions are well-documented, supportable, and production-ready

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 ~ 8 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, analytics engineering, or a related technical field
  • Strong expertise in SQL or other data querying technologies
  • Strong coding proficiency in Python, Java, or similar programming languages
  • Experience with data modeling, ETL/ELT, and workflow orchestration
  • Experience designing and supporting production-grade data pipelines and workflows
  • Strong understanding of performance optimization, data quality, and operational reliability
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technically complex initiatives
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, or BigQuery

  • Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks and large-scale datasets (Pyspark, EMR)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with orchestration and workflow platforms such as Airflow, Dagster, or similar tools
  • Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and deployment workflows
  • Experience implementing monitoring, alerting, and observability practices for data platforms
  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to team standards and technical direction
  • Exposure to analytics, reporting, business intelligence, or cross-functional data product environments
