About the role
We're looking for a Senior QA Automation Engineer to help us ship our product to customers reliably, across three surfaces: web application portal that property managers and executives use every day, a mobile app that maintenance techs depend on in the field, and APIs that keep everything in sync.
You will build and own automated test coverage across web, mobile, and API, and work closely with engineers across AppWork's R&D squads to catch issues before they ever reach a customer. This is a senior, hands-on role: you'll plan and execute AppWork’s automation strategy.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain automated test suites across our Web Portal (web), the Technician App (iOS and Android, including offline scenarios), and AppWork's backend APIs.
- Partner with engineers across AppWork's R&D squads, covering maintenance operations, resident experience, and core infrastructure, to build testability into new features from day one.
- Identify gaps in test coverage and prioritize automation work based on risk, usage, and customer impact rather than testing everything equally.
- Investigate and reproduce bugs, document them clearly for engineering, and verify fixes before release, using automation.
- Maintain and improve CI/CD test pipelines so failures are caught quickly and are easy to diagnose.
- Test AppWork's integrations to confirm work orders and unit status sync correctly in both directions.
- Contribute to test strategy for AppWork's growing AI features.
- Champion quality across the team by advocating for testable designs, clear acceptance criteria, and a strong regression safety net as AppWork scales.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in QA automation, with a track record of building and maintaining automated test suites from scratch.
- Hands-on experience testing web applications and REST APIs.
- Comfortable reading and writing code (JavaScript/TypeScript or similar) to build, debug, and maintain test automation.
- Experience with modern test automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines (for example Playwright, Cypress, Postman, and GitHub Actions, or equivalent tools).
- A strong instinct for risk: you know which parts of a system need the deepest coverage and which can rely on lighter checks.
- A clear communicator who can write bug reports and test plans that both engineers and non-technical stakeholders can follow.
- Fluent English, spoken and written, for documentation and team communication
Nice to Have
- Mobile test automation experience (iOS and Android).
- Experience testing systems with real-time sync or offline-first behavior.
- Experience testing integrations with third-party systems.
- Experience with load and stress tests.
