Overview
Aioi R&D Lab – Oxford is an AI R&D company based in Oxford, on a mission to harness AI to understand, predict, and manage risk, helping build a safer, more resilient society.
We sit at the intersection of academia and industry, working with Oxford's professors, researchers, and graduates alongside commercial spinouts and partner companies, to turn frontier research into AI that actually ships rather than just gets published.
Our work spans applied AI for insurance and adjacent industries, including supply chains, nature, autonomous driving, and the emerging challenges nobody's solved yet, alongside deep research of our own into agentic AI, privacy-preserving technologies, trustworthy AI, complex systems modelling, and quantum computing.
We build AI products and solutions for insurers, businesses, and public sector organisations worldwide, and run innovative research projects that push these technologies further, helping people make better decisions in an uncertain world.
The Business Analyst will support the successful delivery of Track 5 – Commercialisation & Value within the CODAS R&D Programme: a large-scale, multi-partner, international AI research programme backed by the Japanese government and major industry partners.
The role will work closely with the AI Commercialisation Strategists, researchers, engineers, industry stakeholders and programme partners to understand business challenges, identify and define potential AI use cases, and translate business needs into clear requirements that can inform research, product development and commercialisation activity.
Responsibilities
The role will provide the structured business analysis required to take opportunities from early-stage ideas through to clearly defined and validated use cases, supporting stakeholder discovery, requirements definition, process analysis, benefits assessment and business case development.
The purpose of the role is to ensure:
- Business problems, stakeholder needs and opportunities are clearly understood, analysed and documented.
- Potential AI use cases are defined and validated with industry stakeholders, with clear business requirements, outcomes and measures of success.
- Business, functional and non-functional requirements are translated into structured inputs that can be understood and acted upon by research and engineering teams.
- Current and future-state business processes are analysed to identify where AI capabilities could deliver measurable value.
- Benefits, assumptions, dependencies, constraints and risks are identified and evidenced to support use-case prioritisation and business case development.
- Commercialisation Strategists are supported with the analysis and evidence required to develop robust commercial propositions, business cases and recommendations.
- Strong alignment is maintained between business needs, technical capabilities and research activity, helping ensure programme outputs address genuine industry challenges and have a clear route towards practical application.
