Architecture Project Manager

Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.

GMC is seeking an Architecture Project Manager to support our continued growth in our Tampa, FL office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the delivery of architectural projects from design through construction under the guidance of senior leadership. This role applies established architectural principles and firm standards to help ensure projects meet client expectations, quality requirements, and regulatory guidelines. The position assists in developing project scopes, schedules, and budgets while coordinating with internal teams and consultants to support successful project execution. It also plays a key role in maintaining client communication, managing day-to-day project activities, and supporting overall project delivery.

Essential functions and responsibilities

TECHNICAL

• Applies a solid understanding of firm standards, design practices, and project delivery expectations
• Supports client relationships through responsive communication and consistent project coordination
• Contributes to team success by collaborating effectively across disciplines and supporting project goals
• Manages assigned portions of multiple projects under the direction of senior staff
• Supports project delivery through all phases, including design development, documentation, and construction administration
• Assists in developing project scopes, budgets, and schedules
• Helps ensure accuracy and quality of design deliverables through internal review processes
• Coordinates with internal teams and consultants to align design intent across disciplines
• Assists in preparing drawings, reports, specifications, and related project documentation
• Participates in QA/QC reviews to ensure compliance with standards, codes, and project requirements
• Identifies potential project risks and communicates issues to senior staff as needed
• Supports construction phase services, including responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals
• Assists with project closeout documentation and final deliverable
• Contributes to the development of improved workflows, tools, and design practices
• Helps maintain consistency in the use of design standards and software tools (e.g., CAD/Revit)

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited architectural program.
• Minimum 5 years of experience, preferred
• Certification as a licensed professional, preferred
• Expert knowledge of leading a successful Architecture Practice.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Eagerness to learn and develop technical and professional skills.
• Must be able to listen and communicate effectively
• Must be a self-starter, team player and able to establish good working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, team members, and other employees
• Must be able to perform work-related travel and have a valid driver’s license
• Must be local to GMC office

Travel Expectation

• Periodic travel to project sites to support field investigations, construction administration, and quality assurance activities.
• Attendance at client meetings, consultant coordination meetings, and presentations, which may occur off-site or at client locations.
• Participation in site observations during key construction milestones or to address complex field conditions.
• Occasional travel between office locations to support project coordination, staff collaboration, and practice initiatives.
• Limited overnight travel may be required, depending on project location and scope.

Physical Demands

• This position requires work to be performed in an office environment and in the field.
• Work done in the field may consist of exposure to various types of weather and temperatures. You may also be exposed to pollutants, chemicals, insects, and possibly water-borne pathogens, Employees are required to wear appropriate protective clothing and gear when performing fieldwork.
• Office work may consist of prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Movements such as bending, twisting, crouching, etc.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
