Job Purpose

Shape and drive the end-to-end architecture of complex, large-scale platforms by combining deep technical expertise with hands-on engineering leadership. This role defines future-state architectures, establishes engineering standards, and leads the delivery of scalable, high-performing systems, owning the journey from concept to production while leveraging modern cloud, automation, and AI-driven development practices to accelerate delivery and improve quality.

To be the custodian of technical thought leadership within Juristic Digital Channels tribe by providing expertise, guidance and advice that relates to the integration of solutions across multiple technologies, and the supporting-processes to deliver sustainable and quality solutions in alignment to the overall strategy of the Bank whilst growing the technical

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Enterprise Architect to establish the future direction of the technology environment and lead its implementation.
  • Defining architecture and design patterns, methods, practices.
  • Perform technology proof of concepts, R&D, etc.
  • Drive the engineering practice, establish frameworks, patterns, methodologies, and lead the maturing of these across the tribe engineering team.
  • Provide guidance to the engineering team.
  • Using advanced tooling and capability to automate, improve efficiency, etc. of taking code from idea to production. One person engineering/delivery.
  • Develop critical and complex technical components. (Core platform components)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Drive transition to the future mode of operation by participating in shaping the enterprise architecture roadmap through consulting, identifying and collaborating with stakeholders
  • Ensure alignment to Nedbank environment and legislative requirements by reviewing and providing advice on product or technology specific standards
  • Perform independent research on technology best practice
  • Identify individuals that could perform a specialist role and actively participate in their development
  • Participate in industry forums and keep up to date with emerging technologies
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and upskilling of others within area of expertise
  • Support the achievement of the business strategy, objectives, and values
  • Stay abreast of developments in field of expertise
  • Ensure personal growth and enable effectiveness in performance of roles and responsibilities
  • Contribute to the Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc.).
  • Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy
  • Seek opportunities to improve business processes, models, and systems though agile thinking

Essential Qualifications - NQF Level

  • Professional Qualifications/Honour’s Degree

Preferred Qualification

BSc (Computer Science), BCom (Information Systems). Professional Qualification Level 6 (Look at new degree naming conventions)

Preferred Certifications

Togaf Certification, ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) or equivalent

Minimum Experience Level

Min 8 Years experience in similar roles.
