Full description

Janes equips defence, government, and industry leaders with objective, accurate, and shareable data and analysis. Our experts combine advanced technology with proven tradecraft to deliver validated and contextual intelligence to assess threats, accelerate decisions, and anticipate change with confidence. We deliver our intelligence with the flexibility to fuse it with multiple sources in any system, enrich AI solutions, or access it through our portal.

Job purpose:

Unmanned systems have become one of the fastest‑growing and most technically challenging domains in defence intelligence. With rapid global proliferation, especially across modern conflict zones, the rapid global uptake of unmanned systems is driving a sharp rise in the quantity, variety, and evolution rate of these new platforms.

Janes is seeking a highly motivated Research Analyst for defence unmanned platforms in data‑driven environments. In this role, you will deliver robust research and analytical insights to support key projects across the unmanned systems domain.

How you will contribute at Janes:

You will be responsible for:

  • Gathering, creating, and integrating data from diverse sources into Janes’ unmanned systems database.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams (Air, Land, Sea, C4ISR and Weapons teams) to analyse and interpret equipment‑level data across unmanned platforms such as UAVs, USVs, and UGVs, and understand their interactions with other systems.
  • Staying abreast of emerging defence technologies relevant to unmanned systems, autonomy, sensors, and payloads.
  • Identifying gaps in the existing unmanned systems dataset and proposing solutions to improve coverage and accuracy.
  • Sourcing, validating, and verifying data points using primary and secondary research methods, aligned with Janes’ sourcing standards.
  • Conducting investigative research and engaging with Government agencies, industry partners, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and other relevant organisations to gather information when required.

The ideal skills and experience for this role are:

  • A strong team player with a demonstrable interest in the unmanned technology domain, backed by excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; prior experience working in structured, data‑driven environments is highly desirable.
  • This role values candidates who can instinctively spot, classify, and interpret unmanned systems—whether through imagery, specifications, news flow, or technical documentation. Subject-specific training can be provided; however, experience in the defence industry or relevant military service will be considered an advantage.
  • Proven ability to build networks and conduct interviews via phone, email, or other communication channels.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and secondary sources, analyse large volumes of data, and review imagery.
  • Mental flexibility and curiosity to conduct in‑depth investigative research when necessary.

Benefits

  • Annual health Checkup
  • National Pension scheme
  • Meal Card (Sodexo)
  • Healthy Half (0.5 day leave every 6 months for wellbeing) )
  • 22 days of annual leave
  • Transportation allowance
