Full description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Manager, Security Engineering based in the United States.

This is a strategic leadership role responsible for shaping the security engineering function across a complex, cloud-native environment. You will lead multiple engineering teams and managers while setting the technical vision, priorities, and operating model for scalable security capabilities. The role spans areas such as identity and access management, cloud security, application security, platform security, and security systems engineering. You will influence enterprise-wide technology decisions, security investments, and long-term engineering roadmaps. Working closely with Product, Engineering, Infrastructure, IT, Architecture, Risk, and executive stakeholders, you will drive measurable improvements in security, reliability, and operational maturity. Accountabilities:

  • Lead one or more Security Engineering teams through managers, team leads, and individual contributors, establishing clear vision, priorities, operating rhythms, and accountability.
  • Build and develop high-performing engineering organizations by recruiting, coaching, retaining, and mentoring managers and engineers while creating succession and career development plans.
  • Define and execute multi-year Security Engineering strategies and roadmaps aligned with business priorities, enterprise security objectives, technology strategy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide strategic oversight of enterprise security platforms supporting identity, cloud, application, endpoint, data protection, and security operations capabilities.
  • Guide security architecture, platform integrations, technical standards, engineering practices, and technology decisions across multiple organizations.
  • Champion automation and engineering-driven security controls that reduce manual effort, improve operational effectiveness, and enable security at scale.
  • Lead technology evaluations, strategic vendor relationships, portfolio decisions, and build-versus-buy assessments.
  • Direct complex, large-scale initiatives involving multiple engineering teams, business stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Establish strong operational practices, including service ownership, reliability objectives, KPIs, reporting, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Ensure security engineering capabilities effectively support regulatory, customer, and internal security requirements.
  • Communicate security strategy, risk, progress, priorities, and investment needs to senior and executive leadership.
  • Manage budgets, resource allocation, and investment priorities while ensuring security initiatives deliver meaningful organizational outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Significant experience leading multiple engineering teams, including experience managing and developing engineering managers.
  • Strong background in Security Engineering, security platforms, and technical architecture, with demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating production systems at scale.
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and influence technology strategy across large and multifaceted organizations.
  • Strong experience with coding, system integration, automation, and enterprise security technology implementation.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures and modern security platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational transformation, operational maturity, and metrics-driven engineering practices.
  • Experience managing technology portfolios, large-scale vendor relationships, budgets, and strategic investments.
  • Strong executive communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional influencing skills.
  • Ability to balance competing business and security priorities and make effective risk-based decisions in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments.
  • Experience in one or more areas including Identity and Access Management, Cloud Security, Application Security, Platform Security, or Security Systems Engineering is highly valued.
  • Experience supporting rapidly growing SaaS or cloud-native organizations and/or globally distributed engineering teams is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of security frameworks and practices such as NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and Zero Trust architectures is preferred.
  • Security certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, GIAC, or equivalent are advantageous.
  • Experience supporting AI, data governance, and cloud transformation initiatives is a plus.
