Department Summary:
The Signals and Electronics (L650) division is a leader in applying cutting-edge technologies to solve the nation's toughest problems. The Electronic Systems Security (L651) department specializes in embedded systems security, microelectronics and chip reverse engineering with invasive attack techniques, hardware/firmare implementation security, and wireless (5G/xG) and RF protocol security. We bring innovative technical solutions to challenges of national importance, protecting critical program information and providing subject matter expertise with hands-on experience.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Shape MITRE's embedded security work program by identifying the highest-value sponsor problems, aligning opportunities to MITRE's strongest skills and expertise, and creating avenues for differentiated impact.
- Lead embedded security teams in analyzing the security of military edge devices, including foreign materiel analysis and mission-critical tactical platforms.
- Apply specialized expertise in position, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems to assess vulnerabilities, design resilient approaches, and develop defenses against spoofing, jamming, deception, and other mission impacts.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to sponsors; develop novel, creative, and technically rigorous ideas for addressing challenging mission problems and building sponsor trust through exceptional quality work.
- Develop technical roadmaps, prototypes, analyses, and demonstrations that advance edge device security capabilities and inform sponsor decisions.
- Build and leverage a strong network across government sponsors, MITRE, industry, and academia to identify collaboration opportunities and bring together disjoint teams around high-impact mission needs.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 7 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience specifically in developing and/or assessing the security of edge devices
- Demonstrated ability to work with sponsors to understand mission needs, shape problem framing, and formulate actionable paths forward; excellent oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to build and leverage a strong network across government sponsors, connect disjoint teams and organizations, and create collaborations that improve mission impact.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop junior engineers and technical team members.
- Deep technical understanding of position, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems.
- Must have an active Top Secret/SCI U.S Government issued Security Clearance. Per the U.S. Government’s eligibility requirements, you must be a U.S Citizen to be considered for a security clearance.
- Ability to participate in classified discussions at the Bedford, MA campus secure facilities as needed.
- This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience developing research strategies and leading or coordinating a coherent technical portfolio to address high-risk mission challenges.
- Deep experience with hardware and software reverse engineering, vulnerability analysis, and security assessment of embedded systems, military edge devices, or related mission systems.
- Experience with foreign materiel analysis

Salary compensation range and midpoint:
$202,000 - $252,500 - $303,000 Annual
