This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Development Test Engineer - Python based in India.
This role combines backend Python development with advanced test automation to build reliable, scalable, and secure software. You will contribute across the development lifecycle, from designing backend services and APIs to creating comprehensive automated testing frameworks. The position bridges software engineering and quality assurance, giving you ownership of both product functionality and test coverage. You will work with modern Python frameworks, databases, CI/CD pipelines, and automated UI and backend testing tools. Your work will directly contribute to software quality, faster delivery cycles, and a more resilient customer experience. You will collaborate closely with engineering and quality teams in an Agile environment, solving complex technical problems and continuously improving development practices. This is a strong opportunity for a mid-level engineer who enjoys both building software and finding ways to make it more robust.

Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain clean, scalable, and secure Python code for backend services and microservices.
- Build, integrate, and document secure RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs.
- Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks covering unit, integration, backend, UI, and end-to-end testing.
- Create scalable automated test suites using tools such as pytest, unittest, Selenium, and, where applicable, Playwright.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous integration and deployment.
- Identify, reproduce, document, and track software defects, collaborating with development teams to ensure timely resolution.
- Participate in code reviews and promote high standards for Python development, including PEP 8 compliance, maintainability, security, and clean coding practices.
- Write and optimize complex queries across relational and NoSQL databases to support application development and testing.
- Contribute to improving test automation architecture, coverage, reliability, and execution efficiency.
- Explore and apply AI-assisted testing tools and frameworks where they can improve testing productivity and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with engineering, QA, DevOps, and product stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Work within Agile/Scrum processes, participating in planning, reviews, retrospectives, and other team activities.
- Support continuous improvements to development and quality processes, tooling, and automation practices.
Requirements:
- 3–5 years of professional experience in software development and test automation, with at least 3 years of hands-on Python development.
- Strong knowledge of core Python and object-oriented programming principles.
- Practical experience with at least one major Python web framework, such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
- Strong experience with automated testing frameworks and tools such as pytest, unittest, and Selenium; Playwright experience is a plus.
- Experience designing and maintaining automated test suites across unit, integration, UI, backend, and end-to-end testing.
- Solid understanding of RESTful and/or GraphQL API development, integration, testing, and documentation.
- Strong database skills, including the ability to write complex queries for relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and/or NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
- Proficiency with Git and experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments and familiarity with collaboration tools such as Jira or Confluence.
- Strong understanding of software quality, debugging, defect management, maintainability, and secure development practices.
- Ability to work effectively across development and quality-assurance functions and communicate technical issues clearly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying defects and improving test coverage.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is preferred.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is preferred.
- Knowledge of performance and load-testing tools such as Locust or JMeter is a plus.
- Experience with AI-assisted testing tools or frameworks is a plus.
