About Us

Epic Kids is the leading digital reading platform built for kids 12 and under, trusted by millions of children, educators, and families around the world. Our mission is to inspire a lifelong love of reading by providing unlimited access to thousands of high-quality books, videos, and educational content through a safe and engaging experience. We combine technology, storytelling, and learning innovation to help every child become a confident reader.

At Epic, you'll join a collaborative and fast-paced global team passionate about building meaningful products that make a real impact on children's education and literacy.

About the Role

The Senior iOS Engineer owns Epic's native iOS app -- the primary way our readers open a book on iPhone and iPad. You work independently on a large, established Swift and Objective-C codebase, own the reading experience end-to-end, and partner with our Android, backend, and web teams.

This is a role based in India, working closely with Epic's US engineering team and the wider global team.

What You'll Do

  • Own and evolve Epic's native iOS app across iPhone and iPad -- a large, established Swift and Objective-C codebase
  • Own the reading experience -- the in-house book renderer and audio-text sync (narration aligned to word-level highlighting)
  • Own offline reading, in-app purchases, and the App Store release pipeline
  • Drive the app's performance, stability, and quality
  • Partner with Epic's Android engineer and the backend and web teams on shared features
  • Grow into a cross-platform mobile engineer over time, ramping into Android/Kotlin to contribute across both apps

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years building and shipping native iOS apps to the App Store
  • Strong Swift and UIKit, and comfort working across a mixed Swift and Objective-C codebase
  • Proven depth in custom UI/text rendering and/or real-time media-audio synchronization (not only stock controls)
  • Solid across the iOS app lifecycle -- concurrency and thread-safety, local persistence, in-app purchase, and owning a release pipeline (CI, code signing, TestFlight/App Store)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with SwiftUI and Swift Concurrency (async/await)
  • Familiarity with AVCadence for audio-text sync
  • Experience with encrypted media playback
  • Accessibility on a consumer or kids' product -- VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, WCAG
  • Interest in cross-platform mobile, and some Android / Kotlin awareness

Why Join Epic?

At Epic, you'll have the opportunity to build products that inspire millions of kids to discover the joy of reading. You'll work alongside talented teammates across the globe, solve meaningful technical challenges, and help shape the future of digital learning for children.
