Department Overview

The Specialty Camera Engineering team based in Ware, UK is responsible for developing cameras for long range surveillance applications, such as border or coastal security. The products are aimed at public and commercial safety. The team is responsible for the development of the complete products, including hardware, firmware and mechanics and takes care of the whole development life-cycle that includes development, testing and maintenance of the systems we build. Motorola Solutions is seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Quality Assurance Test Lead. This individual will drive timely releases of our security surveillance solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality firmware and software, meeting customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of automated testing pipelines for video surveillance systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, timelines, and testing approaches.
  • Analyze test results, identify improvement areas, and maintain quality metrics and reporting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical concepts and project plans to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Stay current with industry best practices and improve cross-team issue resolution processes.
  • Conduct field testing as needed.

Required Skills

  • Strong expertise in Python programming, with a focus on building scalable, efficient, and maintainable codebases.
  • Required experience with Pytest or other Python testing frameworks (e.g., unittest, Nose, Robot Framework) for test automation, including writing, maintaining, and executing test cases.
  • Understanding of hardware and software
  • Experience developing APIs for test automation 
  • Proficiency with test management tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
  • Hands on experience with Linux command line interface
  • Networking: Understanding of TCP and UDP networking protocols; ability to design and execute relevant test cases.

Nice to have experience

  • Expertise in IP camera/video management system networking and protocols.
  • Exposure to GitLab CI/CD
  • Experience working with hardware (e.g. robotics)
  • Image Processing: Experience in testing image processing pipelines.
  • Camera Systems: Familiarity with camera hardware/software interfaces, sensor validation, and test automation
  • Hardware/Software Co-Verification: Experience working closely with hardware teams to plan, execute, and document board bring-up and system-level validation.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years' experience developing automation software (Python) for testing embedded hardware/robotics and CI/CD integration
  • 4+ years' QA leadership experience, preferably with firmware releases for video management systems or similar devices.
  • Excellent teamwork, troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills; highly adaptable and proactive.
