This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Manager, SMB Sales Engineering based in the United States.
The Manager, SMB Sales Engineering will lead a team responsible for delivering technical sales expertise across small and medium-sized business customers. This role combines people leadership, technical solution design, sales enablement, and customer engagement in a high-volume environment. You will help sales teams translate complex connectivity, networking, security, communications, and business continuity needs into practical solutions. The role will shape how Sales Engineering supports field sales, call center, and business customer care channels. You will also build scalable processes, training programs, and solution frameworks that improve sales effectiveness and customer outcomes. Success requires a balance of technical depth, commercial judgment, coaching ability, and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Accountabilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of SMB Sales Engineers, establishing clear expectations, performance goals, development plans, and technical skill standards.
- Manage Sales Engineering workload, coverage, and priorities across Field Sales, Call Center, and Business Customer Care while maintaining a customer-focused and accountable team culture.
- Recruit and onboard Sales Engineering talent as business needs evolve and remain actively engaged in complex customer opportunities and escalated technical requests.
- Oversee technical sales support, including customer discovery, solution design, technical consultation, demonstrations, presentations, and opportunity support.
- Establish clear engagement guidelines that define when and how Sales Engineering resources should support SMB opportunities.
- Partner with sales teams to uncover customer needs related to connectivity, network performance, cybersecurity, communications, business continuity, and future growth.
- Ensure proposed solutions are technically accurate, operationally supportable, appropriately sized, and aligned with customer requirements and budgets.
- Develop and deliver technical training, discovery guides, customer use cases, presentations, demonstrations, and other sales-enablement resources.
- Create repeatable solution frameworks for SMB segments such as retail, professional services, restaurants, healthcare practices, hospitality, and multi-location businesses.
- Translate technical capabilities into clear business outcomes that improve sales confidence, customer understanding, product adoption, and revenue opportunities.
- Provide technical leadership across broadband, fiber, wireless, networking, managed services, cybersecurity, voice, communications, video, and business continuity solutions.
- Identify product, process, and support gaps affecting the SMB customer experience and collaborate with Product, Operations, Engineering, Customer Care, and Project Management to address them.
- Establish and monitor performance metrics covering Sales Engineering engagement, response times, sales influence, managed-service attachment, associate readiness, efficiency, and customer outcomes.
- Use sales and operational data to identify opportunities for revenue growth, increased product adoption, improved efficiency, and stronger customer experiences.
- Develop scalable workflows that provide effective technical support while avoiding unnecessary complexity or overdependence on Sales Engineering.
- Maintain accurate documentation of customer engagements, solution recommendations, and team activities, and communicate performance trends and growth opportunities to leadership.
- Support annual planning, budgeting, goal setting, and resource allocation for the SMB Sales Engineering organization.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in telecommunications, broadband, networking, information technology, technical sales, or Sales Engineering.
- 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, team-lead, or employee-development experience.
- Experience supporting SMB customers or high-volume sales environments.
- Strong understanding of broadband technologies, including DOCSIS, fiber, PON, FTTx, and 5G/LTE connectivity.
- Working knowledge of LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, VLANs, VPNs, SD-WAN, DHCP, DNS, IP addressing, cybersecurity, and cellular failover.
- Familiarity with managed routers, firewalls, switching, wireless networking, endpoint security, hosted voice, unified communications, SIP, IPTV, and business continuity solutions.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical discovery, solution design, product demonstrations, and customer presentations.
- Experience creating and delivering technical training and sales-enablement content.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling business outcomes for customers and sales teams.
- Strong coaching, communication, presentation, relationship-building, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to influence and lead across organizational boundaries, including situations where direct authority is limited.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's or associate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Meraki, MEF, or comparable credentials are preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Experience with CRM, case-management, reporting, and sales-support platforms is preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed for team meetings, training, customer engagements, and company events.
- Demonstrated commitment to customer-centric behaviors, including being helpful, proactive, empathetic, responsive, and attentive to individual customer needs.
