We’re looking for a Product Manager to join our Digital & Technology Services Directorate at Companies House. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver high-quality digital services used by millions of people across the UK.

Job description

As a Product Manager at Companies House, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering high-quality digital services that support millions of users across the UK. Working within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with stakeholders at all levels, influencing decisions along the product lifecycle, championing best practice to deliver a modern and accessible service for users and our services.

The role suits someone who enjoys working with others, is comfortable making decisions, and can work through uncertainty. You will need to be confident in explaining your thinking and helping others understand the direction of the product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate a clear product vision, aligning roadmaps and backlogs to strategic goals and sprint priorities
  • Own and prioritise the product backlog, making risk-based decisions to unblock delivery and maintain momentum
  • Ensure delivery meets user needs, accessibility, legislation, and GDS/GOV.UK standards within a regulated environment
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, which include delivery managers, designers, researchers, analysts, architects, and operational subject matter experts to deliver change and drive continuous improvement
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, acting as the bridge between service owners, business areas and delivery teams
  • Communicate progress, risks, and decisions clearly through appropriate channels (e.g. workshops, demos, and engagement sessions)
  • Use data, analytics, and user research, and insight to inform decisions, measure performance and improve outcomes
  • Identify and manage risks, issues, and dependencies, balancing user, business, and technical needs, and supporting live service optimisation

Technical Experience

  • Familiarity with delivery and collaboration tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft 365)
  • Awareness of Agile frameworks, particularly Scrum, and how these support iterative delivery
  • Awareness of GDS standards, GOV.UK service principles, user-centred design, and accessibility standards
  • Experience of working with developers, architects, and technical leads to understand constraints, dependencies, and opportunities
  • Knowledge of using data, analytics, and user insight to monitor performance and inform decisions
  • Awareness of tools and frameworks to support prioritisation and risk-based decision making

Where will you be working?

You will be based at either our Cardiff, Edinburgh or Belfast office where you will be expected to attend on a regular basis. We are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work which provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. The degree of choice you have will depend on your role and your day-to-day work activities. Your manager will agree regular patterns of attendance with you: however, you may be required to make yourself available to attend the office more frequently when required to meet business needs.

What will the process look like?

Stage 1 – Sift

An initial sift of applications will be carried out to create a shortlist. This will be based on the evidence provided for the following Success Profile elements: Experience.

In your application form we’d like you to:

Write a CV: tell us about your employment history, including key responsibilities and achievements. Make sure you show how your experience has developed your skills and link these back to the criteria in the Person Specification.

Write a Personal Statement of 750 words: tell us, using examples, how you meet the following criteria from the Person Specification:

Stage 2 - Interview

Companies House uses a blended interview technique, allowing us to find out more about you. We use the Success Profile framework and at interview we will use Success Profiles assessing the Behaviours and Technical Skills listed in the advert, and Strengths.

Successful candidates from the sift stage will be invited to a virtual interview, which will be conducted using Microsoft Teams.

As part of the interview, candidates will be asked to prepare a discussion topic. This will assess the Technical skill: Understanding of Agile tools  and frameworks to support with business prioritisation and risk-based decision making. 

Candidates who are successful at being invited to interview will be sent further details on what to expect at interview and how they can prepare.

The lead criteria to distinguish between tied candidates will be Making Effective Decisions.

A reserve list may be held for up to 12 months from which further appointments may be made for the same or similar roles.

All offers will be made in merit order.

Security Clearance

Successful candidates must pass a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before they can be appointed.

BPSS is an entry level security check. It uses the Police National Computer (PNC) to make sure a candidate has no convictions. The check returns evidence of any current criminal record and un-spent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements for Security Check (SC) before they can be appointed.

The requirement for SC clearance is to have been present in the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years. Failure to meet the residency requirements will result in your security clearance application being rejected.

In line with Government guidance, successfully appointed candidates will need to provide documents for our Right to Work checks.

From June 2026, applicants who are successful at interview will be, as part of pre-employment screening, subject to a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD).
