SUMMARY
Data Engineer I is an entry-level role designed for individuals early in their data engineering career. This position focuses on supporting HexArmor’s core data platforms and gaining hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines and integrations across systems including SAP B1, WMS, Salesforce, Tableau, and ecommerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Amazon). Working under the guidance of a senior engineer, the Data Engineer I will develop foundational skills in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and cloud-based data solutions. This role is highly collaborative, partnering closely with system administrators, business systems, and analytics teams to support reliable, well-governed data flows that enable reporting, automation, and operational insights.

Fully onsite at our global headquarters in Grand Rapids, MI.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the design, development, and maintenance of ingestion and transformation pipelines using Azure Data Factory and MuleSoft ensuring compatibility and interoperability between different integrated systems
- Assist in managing database instances across environments with guidance from senior engineers
- Write, test, and optimize SQL queries for business reporting and integration tasks
- Contribute to maintaining data quality and applying basic governance practices
- Provide support for BI reporting needs (Tableau, SSRS, Crystal Reports, etc.) and ensure accuracy of data delivery
- Partner with business teams to monitor system performance and troubleshoot data issues
- Document processes, data flows, and key learnings to build team knowledge
- Assist in gathering business requirements from stakeholders to automate manual processes
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience
- 1–2 years of relevant experience in data engineering, data analysis, or DBA work
- Foundational knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Hands-on experience with MuleSoft, including building or supporting basic integrations, APIs, or data flows
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes
- Exposure to Azure, AWS, or other cloud platforms
- Eagerness to learn and grow technical skills under mentorship with an ability to adapt to evolving technology and industry offerings
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong understanding of building reusable, standardized, and maintainable data and integration patterns
- Experience with MuleSoft DataWeave 2.0 for data transformation and integration logic
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git/GitHub) and modern CI/CD pipelines
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or similar modern analytics and data platform technologies
- Understanding of data governance, data quality, and best practices for managing data across enterprise systems
