Business & Data Analyst

Location: Toronto-661 University

The Role:

To provide advanced data analytics, validation, and visualization support to Finance-led special projects. This role focuses on transforming clinical, operational, and financial datasets into clear, actionable insights to support executive decision-making, strategic planning, and operational improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities-

  • Data Integration & Management: Extract, integrate, and structure complex clinical, operational, and financial datasets from multiple systems.
  • Data Validation & Governance: Lead data quality assessment, validation, and reconciliation to ensure reliable inputs for executive reporting.
  • Advanced Analysis & Insight Generation: Independently analyze data to identify trends, drivers, and opportunities related to cost, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Executive Visualization & Storytelling: Develop dashboards and visual outputs (e.g., Power BI) and translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Special Projects Delivery: Support priority initiatives (e.g., cost savings, process optimization) through targeted data analysis.
  • Process & Reporting Improvement: Identify opportunities to automate, standardize, and improve data flows and reporting processes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Finance, Laboratory Operations, and Digital & Data teams to define requirements and deliver insights aligned to organizational priorities.

Knowledge and Skills-

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work through complex and ambiguous datasets.
  • Ability to translate clinical and operational data into financial and strategic insights.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to present insights to non-technical and executive audiences.
  • High attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Oral communication and interpersonal skills, to provide technical advice and guidance to peers and liaise with all levels of internal and external stakeholders/contacts.
  • Written communication skills to prepare commentary on analyses develop and deliver presentations, training documents and procedural guidelines.

Education and Experience-

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Health Informatics, Finance, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in data analysis, preferably within healthcare, public sector, or complex operational environments.
  • Advanced Excel including data manipulation, Power Query, and data modeling is required.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar visualization tools is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SQL is considered an asset.

Attributes and Competencies-

  • Works independently to structure analyses, validate data, and develop insights to support decision-making.
  • Exercises judgment in interpreting data, identifying risks and issues, and recommending solutions to support Finance and operational leadership.

Duration: Permanent

Hours of Work: Full time, 36.25 hours per week

Compensation Group:Ontario Public Service Employees Union

Compensation Range :$47.93 - $59.26
