Software Engineer - GoLang (contractual role)

We are looking for a strong, hands-on Golang Backend Engineer with excellent programming fundamentals, problem-solving ability, and a clear understanding of the code they write.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable building backend applications using Golang, designing clean APIs, modelling data, and writing maintainable, well-tested code. Prior expertise in microservices, distributed systems, goroutines, or advanced concurrency is not mandatory, as these areas can be taught on the job.

Candidates may use AI-assisted development tools, but they must be able to independently review, explain, validate, debug, and take complete ownership of the generated code.

Key Responsibilities• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using Golang.

• Build clean and reliable REST APIs with appropriate validation and error handling.
• Translate business requirements into clear technical designs and implementations.
• Apply strong programming fundamentals and object-oriented design principles.
• Design appropriate data models, entities, relationships, and database schemas.
• Write readable, modular, maintainable, and testable code.
• Debug application issues and perform structured root-cause analysis.
• Write unit tests and handle edge cases and failure scenarios.
• Participate in code reviews and clearly explain implementation decisions.
• Use AI and LLM-based development tools responsibly while retaining full understanding

• 2-3 years of hands-on software development experience.
• Strong knowledge of Golang fundamentals, including:
• Variables, data types, constants, and control flow
• Structs, methods, interfaces, and composition
• Pointers, slices, maps, and error handling
• Packages, modules, and dependency management
• Memory behaviour and value versus reference semantics

• Strong programming and problem-solving fundamentals.
• Good understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
• Ability to design clean abstractions and avoid unnecessary complexity.
• Good understanding of data structures, algorithms, and time and space complexity.
• Experience building REST APIs using Gin or a similar Go framework.
• Understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, request validation, and API error handling.
• Good understanding of database fundamentals, including:
• Tables and relationships
• Primary and foreign keys
• Constraints and indexes
• Transactions and query design

• Experience writing unit tests and debugging application code.
• Ability to explain the purpose and behaviour of every significant part of the implementation.
• Ability to review and validate AI-generated code before using it.

Preferred Skills• Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL.

• Familiarity with Redis, Kafka, cloud platforms, or containerisation.
• Exposure to microservices or distributed systems.
• Basic understanding of goroutines, channels, and concurrency.
• Experience working in a product-focused or strong engineering environment.
• Exposure to systems handling meaningful production traffic.
• Basic frontend knowledge is an added advantage.
