We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator II to join our Data and Content Platforms team. This role is responsible for the administration, reliability, performance, security, and support of enterprise SQL Server and PostgreSQL database environments. In addition, the position will contribute to the design, development and support of modern business intelligence and data products.
Approximately 70% of the role will focus on database administration and operational support, while 30% will focus on developing business intelligence and data products.
The ideal candidate is a strong database professional who enjoys both operational excellence and engineering challenges and is passionate about building scalable, reliable data solutions.
Work Location: This is a hybrid position based in either our Warrenton, VA office or our Atlanta, GA office. Team members are expected to work in the office at least two days per week, with the remaining days worked remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration (~70%)
- Administer, monitor, and support Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL database environments.
- Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migrations.
- Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues.
- Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Manage database security, user access, roles, and permissions.
- Support high-availability and business continuity solutions.
- Automate database and data platform administration tasks through scripting and tooling.
- Develop and maintain operational standards, documentation, and best practices.
- Partner with infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure stable and secure database operations.
- Participate in on-call support and production issue resolution as needed.
BI and Data Product Development (~30%)
- Design, develop, and maintain data products using Microsoft Power Platform and other toolsets.
- Build and support data products using Power BI, Power Automate & Power Apps.
- Perform QA and deploy data products within the Power Platform toolset.
- Create data solutions within Microsoft fabric with Copilot functionality.
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable data products.
- Implement data quality, monitoring, and observability capabilities.
- Contribute to CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code practices where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience administering SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL databases in a production environment.
- Strong experience with:• SQL Server Administration
- PostgreSQL Administration
- Performance tuning and query optimization
- Backup and recovery processes
- Database security and access management
- High availability and disaster recovery solutions
- Experience developing data products with Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps)
- Advanced SQL development and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience supporting cloud-based data platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling.
- Experience implementing database monitoring and observability solutions.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL certifications.
