- Design, build and deploy new web crawlers/scrapers based on client and internal data requirements.
- Maintain, debug and update existing crawlers when target websites change their layout, markup, or anti-bot measures.
- Write clean, modular and reusable code in PHP and Node.js for data extraction pipelines.
- Parse and normalize scraped data into structured formats.
- Handle common scraping challenges: pagination, dynamic/JS-rendered content, rate limiting, proxies, CAPTCHAs, and IP blocks.
- Monitor crawler performance and data quality; set up logging/alerts to catch failures early.
- Collaborate with QA and project management to validate data accuracy and completeness against client specifications.
- Document crawler logic, configurations, and known site-specific quirks for hand off and future maintenance.
- Continuously look for ways to make crawlers more efficient, resilient, and easier to maintain.
Requirements
- Good working knowledge of PHP and Node.js, or strong proficiency in one with the enthusiasm and willingness to quickly learn the other.
- Around 1 year of experience in software development or relevant internship/project experience.
- Understanding of HTML, CSS, and the DOM structure, with the ability to inspect web pages and understand how data can be extracted.
- Familiarity with HTTP concepts such as requests, headers, cookies, sessions, and how websites deliver content.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills, with attention to detail and a willingness to learn how to handle different web scraping scenarios.
- A sense of ownership and responsibility, with the ability to work independently while seeking guidance when needed.
- Good communication and collaboration skills, with the confidence to ask questions, share progress, and raise challenges early.
- A positive attitude, curiosity, and a genuine interest in learning new technologies and improving technical skills.
