Lead Data Engineer PLM (d/w/m)

We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Lead Data Engineer to drive the evolution of our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) data landscape. In this role, you will bridge the gap between business strategy and technical execution, serving as the core technical orchestrator for our PLM Datamesh architecture. You will lead agile development workflows, manage critical data operations, and design next-generation data products that ensure high availability, compliance, and accuracy across our enterprise platforms. You will become part of our diverse, multi-national team.

At Airbus Aerostructures (ASA), we stand for highly efficient and sustainable aircraft production. This is at the heart of Airbus. With around 10,000 employees, we combine technology and innovation leadership to pioneer efficient and sustainable aircraft production and to make zero-emission flight a reality.

This role is also available with reduced weekly hours and an adapted scope of tasks.

Your location

You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry. Experience the special flair of Hamburg in your spare time where vibrant cosmopolitan culture meets nautic legacy.

Our Benefits for You

  • Fair Compensation & Extras: Attractive remuneration and individual additional benefits, such as company pension schemes, mobility offers (e.g., bike leasing), or corporate discounts with partner companies in accordance with our current guidelines.
  • Time for You (and Your Loved Ones): 30 days of annual leave based on our collective agreement (35-hour week); work-life balance through flexible working hours (flextime), mobile working, part-time options, job sharing, and sabbatical opportunities.
  • Growth Made Easy: Excellent professional development opportunities and international, group-wide career perspectives.
  • Feel Good at Work: On-site company doctor; comprehensive health programs (sports courses, preventive care, etc.), canteen and cafeteria, and local childcare facilities at selected locations.
  • Diversity Connects: Work in a diverse environment with more than 140 nationalities, where exchange, mutual support, and inclusion are part of our DNA.

Your tasks and responsibilities

Architecture & Data Product Engineering (Datamesh)

  • Design & Architecture: Lead the transition and architectural evolution of PLM data products from Relational Databases to Skywise (Palantir), ensuring strict data compliance and system refinement.
  • Data Product Creation: Build, manage, and scale robust data products using Palantir Foundry, Collate, and streaming technologies like Kafka.
  • Pipeline Maintenance: Maintain and optimize automated Python scripts within SCM repositories executed via Jenkins for automated report generation.

Technical Leadership & Technical Alignment

  • Business Liaison: Act as a focal point for business stakeholders to gather requirements, detail technical specifications, and evaluate feasibility.
  • Developer Alignment: Serve as the Technical Focal Point for developers, providing critical guidance on PLM database schemas, datamesh architecture, and data modeling decisions.

Agile Project Management & Operations

  • Technical Delivery Oversight: Coordinate with external development partners, ensure adherence to architectural standards, and secure timely delivery.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience as a Lead Developer, Data Architect, or Technical Product Owner in a complex data environment (PLM data model experience is highly preferred).
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of data modeling, data flow architecture, and building automated pipelines.
  • Agile Mindset: Strong experience working within an IT Scrum framework.
  • Soft Skills: Communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business specifications (and vice versa).
  • Adaptability: A continuous learner who can quickly adapt to evolving architectures, tools, and emerging technologies.
  • You are fluent in English. German is a plus.

Not a 100% match? No worries! Airbus supports your personal growth with customized development solutions.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
