Overview: Mastercard is seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will design, develop, test, deploy, and support highly scalable payment and technology solutions that power global commerce. You will work as part of an Agile engineering team, contributing to cloud-native platforms and services while maintaining Mastercard's high standards for security, reliability, and performance.
The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience in Java, Ruby, and AWS cloud technologies, and demonstrates a passion for continuous learning, automation, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and services supporting Mastercard products and platforms.
- Own software delivery activities at the application and component level, including development, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Build secure, scalable, and resilient cloud-native solutions using AWS services.
- Develop and enhance RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues across development, test, and production environments.
- Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices, secure coding standards, and software craftsmanship.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Architects, SREs, QA Engineers, and other stakeholders to deliver business value.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using modern DevOps practices.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and observability capabilities to ensure operational excellence.
- Participate in on-call rotations and support incident response activities when required.
- Continuously improve system performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability. [
- Mentor junior engineers and actively contribute to a culture of learning and knowledge sharing.
Adopt new technologies, programming languages, and architecture patterns as required by business needs.
All about you
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Solid previous professional software development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and modern Java frameworks such as Spring Boot.
- Working knowledge of Ruby and experience building or maintaining Ruby-based applications or automation solutions.
- Experience designing and developing distributed systems and microservices.
- Experience with AWS cloud services such as:
○ EC2 ○ ECS/EKS ○ Lambda ○ S3 ○ RDS ○ DynamoDB ○ CloudWatch ○ IAM ○ API Gateway ○ SNS/SQS
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
- Solid understanding of software design patterns and object-oriented programming.
- Experience with automated testing, code quality tools, and secure coding practices.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
