Some careers shine brighter than others.

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC and fulfil your potential. Whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or simply take you in an exciting new direction, HSBC offers opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with operations in 64 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people to fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Associate Director, Software Engineering

In this role, you will:

  • Shape and run the Private Cloud internal customer engagement model (cadence, forums, communications, feedback loops); act as primary customer contact for demand, priorities, expectations, and outcomes.
  • Translate customer needs into clear requirements for Product/Service Owners, balancing value, risk, and delivery feasibility.
  • Build relationships across CTO technology teams to anticipate issues, unblock delivery, and improve customer experience.
  • Coordinate cross-domain dependencies (Connectivity, Enterprise Infrastructure, Cyber Security, Architecture, Engineering) for sequencing and operational readiness.
  • Embed security, resilience, architecture standards, and engineering guardrails; escalate trade-offs for leadership decisions.
  • Lead governance readiness (service reviews, QBRs, steering): narratives, metrics, and decision asks; track progress, benefits realisation, and risk mitigation to closure.
  • Support Head of Private Cloud on platform strategy, transformation roadmap, operating model improvements (RACI/governance/tooling/service catalogue), and service ownership (SLO/SLAs, KPIs, resilience engineering).
  • Partner with Business Management/COO on planning, reporting, financial inputs, workforce management (capacity/onboarding/role clarity), budget alignment, and audit/risk/compliance expectations.

To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:

  • Deliver agreed platform initiatives and transformation milestones on schedule.
  • Improve service resilience and performance (availability, incident trends, recovery, change success).
  • Strengthen governance with clear decisions, fewer ambiguity-driven escalations, and better dependency control.
  • Demonstrate cost discipline through delivery within budget and transparent financial inputs.
  • Bring strong senior stakeholder engagement experience in large technology/platform or infrastructure environments.
  • Coordinate effectively across multiple technical domains, managing complex interdependencies and competing priorities.
  • Apply sound knowledge of private cloud operating models, service management, resilience and secure-by-design delivery; support strategy/roadmaps, metrics and benefits tracking.
  • Work collaboratively and inclusively, communicate simply, own trade-offs and risk reduction, and remove blockers to deliver at pace.
