Full description

At Frankly Wearing, we’re building something different from a traditional merch platform.

We are a leading Indian merchandise marketplace that allows independent artists, creators, and NGOs to sell custom-designed apparel and accessories in an automated manner.

We’re looking for a Full-Stack Ruby on Rails Developer to help us scale a large catalog-driven marketplace platform and solve interesting challenges across search, performance, creator tooling, growth systems, and platform reliability.

Role Overview

This is a high-ownership engineering role for someone who enjoys building fast, shipping independently, and solving meaningful technical problems.

You’ll work across backend systems, frontend experiences, integrations, and infrastructure to improve performance, scalability, developer velocity, and customer experience. We need someone who can think pragmatically, write maintainable code, and move quickly in a small but ambitious team.

You should enjoy owning features end-to-end and working on both product-facing experiences and deeper technical improvements.

What You’ll OwnProduct Development

  • Build and maintain features across Frankly Wearing based on the monolithic Ruby on Rails framework with server-rendered views.
  • Develop creator-facing, customer-facing, and internal operational tools.
  • Translate product ideas into scalable, production-ready systems.

Full-Stack Engineering

  • Work across backend systems, APIs, frontend interfaces, and database design.
  • Build intuitive user experiences while maintaining strong backend architecture.
  • Improve platform usability, conversion, and performance.

Performance & Scalability

  • Optimize application performance across a large catalog-driven marketplace system.
  • Improve database efficiency, query performance, caching, and system responsiveness.
  • Help scale systems handling large product feeds, high traffic, and integrations.

Integrations & Platform Systems

  • Build and maintain API integrations with fulfillers, payment gateways, marketing platforms, creator tools, analytics systems, and ecommerce partners.
  • Work with external services to improve platform capabilities.
  • Evaluate practical ways AI can improve engineering velocity and product capabilities.

Code Quality & Engineering Culture

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
  • Help improve engineering standards, documentation, and development workflows.

Must-have

  • 2-4+ years experience building production web applications with Ruby on Rails.
  • Strong understanding of Ruby, Rails, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, Sidekiq/background jobs, and modern web architecture.
  • Experience with frontend templating scripting on JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and modern frontend patterns.
  • Experience using AI tooling in your day-to-day workflow, and curiosity about applying it more deeply.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, performance optimization, and debugging.
  • Ability to independently own features from idea to deployment.

Strong Plus

  • Experience with ecommerce, marketplaces, creator economy, catalog systems, or high-SKU platforms.
  • Familiarity with search, recommendation systems, feeds, or conversion optimization.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools and engineering automation.

You’ll work on meaningful engineering problems in ecommerce, creator tooling, search/discovery, and platform scale — while having real ownership and influence over technical direction.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, solving practical engineering problems, and building systems that directly impact business growth.
