We're passionate about creating exceptional places for students to live and learn, and this opportunity plays a key role in helping us harness the power of data to drive insight, innovation and operational excellence across our business.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our Data & Business Intelligence team and help develop, maintain and optimise our cloud-based data platform.

Working within a modern Azure and Databricks environment, you'll design and maintain scalable data pipelines, transform and model data, and ensure our data architecture provides a reliable foundation for business intelligence, reporting and analytics across UPP.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud technologies while supporting a business that is investing heavily in data-driven decision making.

This role is based in our award-winning London office near London Bridge, Canon Street and Monument Stations, and offers hybrid working. Occasional travel and overnight stays to support our national portfolio when required.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Build, maintain and optimise scalable data pipelines and ETL processes using Azure Databricks.
  • Work with stakeholders across the business to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy and consistency through validation and monitoring processes.
  • Design and maintain data models within Databricks and Azure SQL environments.
  • Transform and prepare data for reporting, analytics and business intelligence.
  • Support Power BI reporting and dashboard solutions alongside the BI team.
  • Manage and optimise Azure and Databricks resources to ensure performance and cost efficiency.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, security and compliance controls across the data platform.
  • Maintain documentation and support continuous improvement of data engineering processes.
  • Contribute to innovation, knowledge sharing and best practice within the Data & Business Intelligence team.

We are looking for you to already be working in a Data Engineer, or similar data-focused role, with:

  • Experience building and managing data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with data modelling.
  • Experience integrating data from multiple structured and unstructured sources.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-based data architecture.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with Azure, Databricks or similar cloud data platforms.
  • A proactive approach with a passion for continuous improvement and delivering high-quality data solutions.

Alongside this, you'll be collaborative and customer-focused, with passion for continuous improvement and delivering high-quality data solutions.

Experience with Python, Spark, Delta Lake, DevOps tools, agile methodologies or cloud data governance would be advantageous.

In return, we are offering a competitive salary with a great benefits package which includes a discretionary performance bonus, 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, private healthcare, pension, enhanced family leave policy, life assurance, training, two paid volunteering or personal development days and a cycle-to-work scheme.

UPP welcomes all applications and recognises the value of having a diverse and inclusive culture, which reflects the communities we work with and has a positive impact on our people, our student residents and our university partners.

We understand all disabilities, impairments and conditions are unique, so please advise us of any adjustments which would support you through our recruitment process and help you to thrive at work.

We are a team with energy, pace and passion; apply today and help us build the data foundations that support smarter decision-making across UPP.
