JOB ROLE

The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for providing expert analytical, reporting, and business intelligence support predominantly to external partner organisations, including hospices and other health and care providers. Working within the Connecting Systems Intelligence (CSI) team, the post holder will act as a trusted analytical partner, helping stakeholders understand their information requirements and translating these into high-quality data products, dashboards, reports, and insights.

The role combines advanced analytical and technical expertise with strong stakeholder engagement skills, requiring the post holder to build and maintain effective relationships across multiple organisations. They will lead on the development of complex datasets, reporting solutions, data pipelines, and automation processes, while ensuring high standards of data quality, governance, and information security.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Coaching/mentoring more junior Information Analysts within the team, providing motivation, support, and personal development.
  • Hold the relationship with internal and external clients, escalating issues to senior staff as needed
  • Be a visible and approachable member of the CSI team
  • Manage supplier relationships, occasionally including delegated budget responsibilities.

Communication & Work Approach

  • Support information users to define and clarify information requirements through enabling conversations.
  • Communicate proactively, clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide effort estimates and realistic delivery timescales for requested work.
  • Present options clearly, including risks, benefits and trade-offs, to support decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively as part of multiple project teams, providing technical expertise and advice.
  • Provide updates on projects using project management software

Technical & Analytical Duties

  • Design and create multiple and complex datasets using SQL, ensuring they are logical and efficient and optimised.
  • Produce professional, high-quality reports and dashboards, typically using Power BI.
  • Lead on data quality checking, cleansing and validation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee the production and submission of statutory NHS returns and reports.
  • Maintain an understanding of the complete data lifecycle, including operational processes
  • Build and maintain data pipelines in Azure Data Factory
  • Support Robotic Process Automation using tools such as UIPath.
  • Undertake horizon scanning for new technologies, making recommendations and preparing business cases for adoption.
  • Monitor and maintain automation and scripting technologies to ensure reliability of processes.

  • Embed quality assurance into all aspects of analytical work, supervising the outputs of others where appropriate.
  • Ensure systematic documentation of systems, processes, and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of operating procedures, organisational policies and data governance standards.
  • Ensure all work complies with information governance, cyber security, and change control processes.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Learning and Development

Demonstrates ongoing commitment to professional development through degree-level education or equivalent experience. Proven aptitude for learning new technologies, including self-directed learning - Essential

Technical - SQL

Minimum of 18 months' experience in data transformation and report development using SQL, with a proven ability to work independently and at pace on advanced level problems - Essential

Technical – PBI/Reporting

High level of analytic skill and attention to detail, with at least 18 months experience of data analysis across multiple datasets, using tools such as Power BI (Fabric), Tableau, Excel or similar - Essential

Technical – RPA/ADF

Intermediate level knowledge and experience in at least one of the following (Essential):

  • Building and maintaining data engineering pipelines from scratch using tools such as Azure Data Factory
  • Building and maintaining UI based Robotic Process automations from scratch using tools such as UIPath
