Full description

At IAG, we’re ready for you. We're the largest general insurance group in Australia and New Zealand. Our family of brands turns the IAG purpose of making your world a safer place into action by helping everyday Aussies and New Zealanders, supporting their ambitions and making insurance accessible.

Help shape the future of software engineering in IAG’s Retail Insurance Australia division. As Manager, Agentic Software Engineering within RIA Digital & Channel Engineering, you’ll build and grow a specialist team responsible for developing the standards, platforms, workflows and automation that enable engineers and software agents to deliver software effectively. You’ll create reusable engineering capabilities that improve productivity, quality and consistency across RIA, while shaping how software is built, tested and delivered as engineering becomes increasingly agentic. This is a permanent full-time role based in Gadigal Country (Darling Park 2, Sydney), Naarm (Melbourne) or Meanjin (Brisbane).

What You'll Do

  • Build and lead the Agentic Software Engineering practice within RIA Digital & Channel Engineering.
  • Lead, mentor and grow a specialist team, creating a culture of learning, collaboration and engineering excellence.
  • Develop reusable engineering capabilities, including standards, agent instructions, workflows, controls, guardrails, templates and reference implementations.
  • Build and evolve engineering platforms, evaluation approaches and automation that can be adopted across RIA engineering teams.
  • Establish workflows that provide engineers and software agents with the context, validation, testing, review, permissions, escalation and recovery mechanisms required for reliable delivery.
  • Improve engineering productivity, quality, consistency and delivery performance through better platforms, automation and ways of working.
  • Define pathways to greater levels of engineering automation and autonomy while maintaining appropriate security, assurance, governance and accountability.
  • Coach engineering teams, build communities of practice and grow capability in agentic software engineering across RIA.
  • Partner with engineering, delivery, architecture, platform, cyber, risk and Responsible AI teams to turn emerging technologies into practical engineering outcomes.
  • Use delivery insights, incidents and review findings to continuously improve engineering standards, workflows, controls and reusable assets.

What You'll Bring

  • Demonstrated engineering leadership experience in software engineering, engineering enablement, platform engineering, developer productivity or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to design engineering platforms, controls and workflows that enable reliable delivery at scale.
  • A strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including version control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, release management and operational resilience.
  • Experience building reusable engineering capabilities through standards, tooling, platforms, automation, operating models or communities of practice.
  • The ability to translate emerging technologies and engineering practices into practical, measurable improvements in productivity, quality and delivery performance.
  • Experience coaching engineers and building technical capability across diverse teams.
  • Strong judgement in balancing experimentation and increasing automation with security, quality, governance and operational reliability.
  • Curiosity, learning agility and a commitment to staying current with rapidly evolving engineering technologies and practices.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder skills, with the ability to explain complex engineering concepts and trade-offs clearly.
  • Direct experience in agentic software engineering is welcome but not essential. This is an emerging discipline, and we’re looking for a strong engineering leader who can learn quickly and help shape the practice.

What We Offer

  • Boosted superannuation with 13% as standard.
  • 20 days annual leave + 5 days MyLeave (extra leave for what’s important to you).
  • Up to 50% off personal insurance, including home and motor insurance.
  • Partner discounts on private health insurance, tech & appliances, and many more.
  • Industry-leading 20 weeks paid parental leave.
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning, the award-winning IAG Academy, study assistance and secondment opportunities.
