Location: Farmers Branch, TX
Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in-office / 2 days remote)
Position Overview:
As a Senior Database Administrator on the RANDA team, you will contribute to database management of highly complex and large-scale data-driven systems to enable RANDA business while supporting architectural vision of quality, scalability, performance, and functions.
Essential Role Functions:
- Selecting and deploying appropriate AWS database services such as Amazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, and Redshift with optimal scale and cost
- Monitoring AWS database health using tools like Amazon CloudWatch and Performance Insights
- Configure and test High Available automatic failover mechanisms to reroute traffic seamlessly if a primary node goes offline
- Monitor replication lag and data consistency across all nodes
- Manage load balancing to distribute read and write traffic evenly across the cluster
- Maintain RANDA database systems and improve their performance in conjunction with data development and software engineering teams to ensure smooth database operations across the enterprise
- Surgically work on performance monitoring, tuning, identifying, and fixing issues within database realm
- Take ownership in building highly available database clusters
- Establish database systems monitoring dashboards and procedures that will enable 24/7 business operations. Create alerts and develop processes to remediate known performance issues.
- Collaborate to build robust Disaster Recovery system and architecture for database systems
- Be part of ongoing monitoring support with other Database Administrators
Minimum Qualifications:
- 6-10 years in commercial-grade business applications environment leveraging the following: • SQL Server Database Administration 2008, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019, 2022
- Hands on experience with AlwaysOn Availability Groups their creation, maintenance, and monitoring
- Expert at troubleshooting performance issues
- Maintain production servers, SSIS packages
- General understanding of SAN technologies and 3rd party monitoring tools
- Have good grasp of Cloud technology stack like AWS (Azure, Google Cloud is acceptable as well)
- Excellent communication, verbal and writing skills
- Minimal oversight required
