About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Engineer (Level 2) to join our infrastructure team in Castlebar. In this role, you will design, manage, and maintain our enterprise VMware vSphere and Windows virtualization environments, oversee backup and disaster recovery operations, and drive operational efficiency through automation and continual service improvement.

Tasks

Key Responsibilities

Virtualization & Infrastructure Management

  • Design, implement, upgrade, and migrate VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi environments.
  • Configure ESXi servers for High Availability (HA), review server performance, and verify configurations.
  • Administer Windows Server environments, Active Directory (AD), DNS, DHCP, and Windows Clustering.
  • Integrate and manage SAN/NAS storage solutions with VMware virtualization layers.
  • Apply performance tuning recommendations from OEMs and vendor guidelines.
  • Install patches and hotfixes across VMware and Hyper-V platforms.

Operations, Monitoring & Automation

  • Develop PowerShell and vSphere PowerCLI scripts to automate routine operations and administration.
  • Implement and manage monitoring solutions to proactively detect and resolve issues.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for major incidents and conduct repeated incident/alert trend analysis.
  • Create, update, and maintain SOPs, knowledge base (KB) articles, and detailed environment documentation.
  • Execute Continual Service Improvement (CSI) plans to optimize data center reliability.
  • Manage ITSM workflows covering Incident, Problem, and Change Management.

Security, Backup & Disaster Recovery

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam, Veritas).
  • Perform routine backup tests to guarantee data integrity, availability, and rapid recoverability.
  • Enforce security policies, conduct regular vulnerability scans, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Virtualization: Deep expertise in VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi configuration, HA, upgrades, and Hyper-V.
  • Core Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Windows Server administration, and Windows Clustering.
  • Storage: Strong working knowledge of SAN/NAS integration with virtualized environments.
  • Backup & DR: Proficiency with enterprise backup tools such as Veeam or Veritas.
  • Automation: Practical experience scripting with PowerShell and vSphere PowerCLI.
  • ITSM & Data Centre Operations: Solid understanding of data center operational processes and ITSM frameworks (Incident, Problem, and Change Management).
  • Troubleshooting: Strong analytical skills with proven experience conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for complex outages.
