Senior Product Manager, Payments
The Senior Product Manager, Payments will lead the strategic development and delivery of BMO’s payments-related digital asset capabilities within US & Canada. This role sits within the Payments Modernization (PayMod) portfolio and is instrumental in shaping BMO’s approach to digital money, ensuring alignment with regulatory frameworks, emerging technologies, and national financial market infrastructure initiatives.
The successful candidate will be a thought leader in the payments space, capable of translating complex concepts into actionable strategies, and driving cross-functional execution across product, technology, compliance, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the digital assets payments roadmap, with a focus on tokenized deposits, programmable money, and interoperability with modern payment rails (e.g., RTR, TCH RTP, FedNow).
- Industry Engagement: Represent BMO in external forums, regulatory consultations, and working groups (e.g., Federal Reserve, Payments Canada, Bank of Canada, OCC) to shape policy and advocate for strategic priorities.
- Regulatory Alignment: Lead conversations with regulators and internal compliance teams to ensure digital asset initiatives meet evolving standards (e.g., Regulatory guidelines, liquidity requirements, compliance to OSFI / FINTRAC).
- Technology Partnership: Collaborate with engineering and architecture teams to design scalable, secure, and compliant digital asset infrastructure.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Commercial Banking, Treasury, and Retail teams to identify use cases, drive adoption, and unlock new value streams.
- Governance & Risk: Work with our compliance partners to define governance frameworks for digital asset issuance, custody, and settlement, ensuring alignment with BMO’s risk appetite and operational controls.
- Reporting & Analytics: Define data requirements to support regulatory reporting requirements
- Executive Communication: Deliver high-impact briefings to senior leadership, translating technical and regulatory developments into strategic business insights.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in financial services, with 5+ years in product leadership roles focused on payments.
- Familiarity with Canadian & US payment infrastructure (FedNow, TCH RTP, RTR, Lynx, Interac) is an asset.
- Understanding of global trends within this space including stablecoins, tokenized deposits, smart contracts and distributed ledger.
- Proven ability to lead regulatory engagements and navigate complex compliance landscapes.
- Strong technical acumen and ability to partner with engineering teams on solution design.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence across executive, technical, and regulatory audiences.
Salary:
$112,200.00 - $209,000.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.
Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
