Full description

Assume a critical role in defining the future of a globally recognized firm and have a direct and significant effect in a realm tailored for top achievers in site reliability.

As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial & Investment Bank, Payments Technology, you hold a leadership role in your team, demonstrate strong knowledge across multiple technical domains, and advise others on the technical and business issues facing them. Take lead and conduct resiliency design reviews, break up complex problems into digestible work for other engineers, act as a technical lead for medium to large-sized products, and provide advice and mentoring to other engineers.

Job responsibilities

  • Owns reliability outcomes for key services by defining and driving SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, and service health reporting aligned to client and business expectations.
  • Leads incident response for complex production issues: triage, coordination, stakeholder communications, and post-incident RCAs with measurable corrective actions.
  • Provides specialized technical support and relationship management for high-profile clients, including hosting client discussions and coordinating internal follow-ups.
  • Partners with application development and platform teams to improve reliability through automation, resilient design patterns, and operational best practices.
  • Builds and enhance observability: monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and tracing—turning signals into actionable insights and reduced noise.
  • Tracks performance against SLAs/SLOs, identify trends, and proactively recommend upgrades or features to improve stability and client experience.
  • Works closely with Sales, Product, Service, Operations, and Production Management to support launches, manage risks, and improve delivery.
  • Uses enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate major-incident triage, troubleshooting, and post-incident analysis, validating outputs and handling operational data according to sensitivity and security requirements.
  • Serves as the main point of contact during major incidents for your application and has the skills to identify and solve the issue quickly to avoid financial loss to the business
  • Leads reuse-first adoption of AI-assisted reliability workflows across SDLC/toolchain practices (e.g., CI/CD quality checks, test/validation automation, and operational readiness), ensuring traceability/auditability, resiliency, and security controls.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on site reliability engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience supporting modern distributed systems in production (troubleshooting, performance analysis, incident management).
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences, including external client-facing updates.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including structured RCA and action tracking through closure.
  • Experience with observability and operational metrics (monitoring/alerting, dashboards, log analysis). Working knowledge of networking basics, and production support practices.
  • Experience with at least one of: CI/CD, infrastructure as code, automation/scripting (e.g., Python/Shell), or reliability tooling/engineering practices. Familiarity with reliability concepts such as SLOs/SLIs, capacity/performance considerations, change management, and operational readiness.
  • Ability to translate operational data (logs/metrics/traces) into insights and hypotheses—potentially using analytics or AI techniques—to reduce MTTR and prevent recurrence.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reliability, scalability, performance, security, enterprise system architecture, toil reduction, and other site reliability best practices
  • Demonstrated experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to improve SRE workflows (e.g., incident investigation support and knowledge capture) with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity.
  • Ability to evaluate AI-assisted operational recommendations for correctness and risk, define appropriate guardrails for team usage, and ensure outcomes align to resiliency and security expectations.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience with tools such as Grafana, Geneos, and Splunk, including interpretation of outputs and tuning alerting.
  • Knowledge of payments rails/processes (e.g., Real Time Payments, Automated Clearing House, payment FX processing, wires, push-to-card, eWallet, JPM Coin).
  • Intermediate Power Point skills for clear, client-ready updates and incident reviews
