About the Job:

Horizon Organic is seeking a hands-on Business Systems Analyst – Dairy USDA Grant Process to support, enhance, and oversee the technology solutions used to manage dairy grants and farm relationships.

This role will serve as the technical owner and primary liaison among business stakeholders, IT teams, developers, contractors, and software vendors. The analyst will translate business requirements into practical technical solutions, configure and enhance low-code applications, manage integrations, oversee custom software development, and provide ongoing production support.

The ideal candidate has strong technical and analytical capabilities, experience with the software development lifecycle, and the ability to learn unfamiliar applications and business processes quickly. Knowledge of dairy grant administration and farm relationship management is a significant advantage; however, this is a hands-on IT role, and technical experience will be prioritized over industry-specific knowledge.

This is a hybrid position with an expectation of 3 days per week on-site in Broomfield, CO.

This role may be responsible for, but not limited to:

Business and Systems Analysis

  • Partner with Dairy Grants, Farm Relations, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders to understand processes, pain points, controls, and technology requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into functional specifications, technical requirements, process flows, data models, and user stories.
  • Evaluate existing processes and recommend opportunities for simplification, automation, integration, and improved data quality.
  • Assess the impact of proposed changes across applications, integrations, data, reporting, security, and support processes.
  • Maintain a clear backlog of incidents, enhancements, technical debt, and project priorities.

Application Configuration and Development

  • Configure, customize, enhance, and support applications built with Airtable, Jotform, Quickbase, and ArcGIS.
  • Develop and maintain forms, workflows, business rules, validations, dashboards, reports, permissions, notifications, and automated processes.
  • Support custom-built web applications and services used throughout the dairy grant lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain APIs and integrations among grant-management applications, enterprise systems, data platforms, and external services.
  • Troubleshoot application, data, workflow, and integration issues and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual work, duplicate data entry, process delays, and data-quality issues.

Custom Development Oversight

  • Oversee custom software development delivered by internal teams, contractors, and external vendors.
  • Participate in solution design and ensure that proposed architectures are secure, scalable, maintainable, and aligned with business requirements.
  • Review functional and technical designs, development estimates, release plans, test results, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure custom solutions follow established software development, security, testing, deployment, and change-management practices.
  • Monitor vendor performance, delivery quality, budgets, risks, dependencies, and project timelines.
  • Minimize reliance on individual developers by ensuring appropriate documentation, code management, knowledge transfer, and support coverage.

Testing and Deployment

  • Develop test scenarios and perform functional, integration, regression, and data-validation testing.
  • Coordinate and support User Acceptance Testing with business stakeholders.
  • Validate that solutions meet functional requirements, data-quality standards, security expectations, and business controls.
  • Support release planning, production deployment, cutover, stabilization, and post-implementation reviews.
  • Maintain requirements, system configurations, process documentation, test evidence, support procedures, and training materials.

Production Support and Continuous Improvement

  • Provide day-to-day application support, including incident investigation, root-cause analysis, issue resolution, and stakeholder communication.
  • Monitor applications, integrations, workflows, and data exchanges to identify failures or performance concerns.
  • Coordinate with vendors and support partners to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Analyze recurring incidents and implement corrective and preventive improvements.
  • Develop training materials and provide guidance to business users and support teams.
  • Ensure solutions remain reliable, supportable, cost-effective, and aligned with evolving business needs.
