Position Summary

The Business Systems Analyst is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining dashboards, reports, data models, and analytics solutions that support organizational decision-making. This role partners with Operations, Finance, HR, Safety, Estimating, and Executive Leadership to transform data into meaningful insights. The BI Developer works with a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and business understanding to improve data accuracy, reporting efficiency, and company-wide access to information.

Essential Job Functions

  • Design, develop, and maintain reports, dashboards, and analytics tools to support business operations.
  • Build and optimize data models, queries, datasets, and visualizations for improved performance and accuracy.
  • Partner with departments to gather reporting requirements and develop BI solutions that support operational and strategic goals.
  • Maintain and support existing BI tools, reporting environments, and data visualization platforms.
  • Conduct testing, validation, and quality assurance on all reports and datasets to ensure data accuracy.
  • Develop automated workflows, scheduled refreshes, and data pipelines to improve reporting efficiency.
  • Support integration of BI systems with HR, Payroll, ERP, timekeeping, finance, safety, and operational systems.
  • Analyze trends, KPIs, and performance metrics and provide insights for leadership review.
  • Work with IT to ensure data governance, security, and access controls are maintained across BI systems.
  • Troubleshoot report issues, data inconsistencies, and system errors.
  • Document BI processes, data models, reporting logic, and development standards.
  • Train and support end users on BI tools, dashboards, and self-service reporting.
  • Assist with special projects, system enhancements, and cross-functional data initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company data and sensitive information at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Responsibilities may be modified or added based on operational needs and business priorities.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business, or related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of experience in BI development, data analytics, or business systems preferred.
  • Experience with SQL, data modeling, and visualization tools required.
  • Construction, operations, or field-based analytics experience preferred but not required.

Licenses/Certifications (if applicable):

  • BI or analytics certifications (Power BI, Tableau, SQL, etc.) preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to design, develop, and maintain BI dashboards, reports, and analytical solutions.
  • Proficiency in SQL, data modeling, relational databases, and data transformation.
  • Proficiency with BI visualization tools (Power BI preferred).
  • Ability to gather business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and present data clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to learn internal systems and integrate multiple data sources.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills when working with internal departments.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of company data and employee information.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Requirements: This position is primarily sedentary to light work in nature. The employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods, use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, and office equipment, and occasionally stand, walk, bend, or reach. The employee may occasionally lift or move office materials such as files, binders, laptops, or boxes of supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment: Work is typically performed in a professional office environment, with occasional visits to field or construction sites as required. The noise level in the office is usually moderate. The employee may occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, dust, and construction noise when visiting job sites. All work must be performed in compliance with Cal/OSHA safety and ergonomic standards, and employees are expected to use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering field areas.
