Requirements

Must have

  • 7+ years of experience in Java development, including hands-on experience with Java 8 in production environments.
  • 5+ years of experience with Hibernate/JPA, including hands-on work with Hibernate 4.x in legacy applications.
  • Proven experience delivering at least one Oracle to PostgreSQL database migration (or equivalent) within a Java-based application environment.
  • Strong expertise in Oracle and PostgreSQL SQL, with the ability to translate and optimize Oracle-specific features such as NVL, SYSDATE, ROWNUM, DECODE, DUAL, MERGE, CONNECT BY, and sequences.
  • Experience with Spring Framework 4.x using XML-based configuration.
  • Strong knowledge of LOB migrations, including BLOB/CLOB to PostgreSQL bytea/text conversions.
  • Experience with Gradle multi-module builds.
  • Hands-on experience converting PL/SQL code to PL/pgSQL.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Grails 5.x, GORM, and Groovy.
  • Experience with Quartz Scheduler.
  • Experience with HikariCP connection pooling.
  • Knowledge of Flyway and/or Liquibase for database versioning and migrations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and own all application-side changes required for the migration of a Java/Grails application suite from Oracle to PostgreSQL on Azure.
  • Perform database migration activities across 8 Java application modules while maintaining the existing application architecture and framework versions.
  • Update JDBC dependencies and Hibernate dialect configurations to support PostgreSQL.
  • Validate and remediate Hibernate ORM mappings for PostgreSQL compatibility.
  • Analyze and resolve LOB handling issues during the migration process.
  • Review, translate, and optimize Oracle-specific SQL across more than 100 DAO components.
  • Convert and validate 51 maintenance scripts from Oracle to PostgreSQL standards.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure a smooth migration, performance validation, and successful deployment.
