Position Summary: The Clinical Business Intelligence Analyst supports University of Iowa Health Care's mission through the delivery of advanced analytics, business intelligence solutions, and actionable insights that improve clinical quality, operational performance, and patient outcomes. This position collaborates with clinical, operational, quality, and administrative stakeholders to transform complex healthcare data into meaningful information that supports strategic and operational decision-making.
The Clinical Business Intelligence Analyst combines analytical expertise with business intelligence development capabilities to design, develop, maintain, and optimize reporting and dashboard solutions while conducting analyses that identify trends, opportunities, and performance improvement initiatives. The role leverages enterprise data assets to support quality improvement, Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), operational excellence, benchmarking, and organizational performance initiatives.

This position is eligible for remote work or hybrid within the state of Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Position Responsibilities:
Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, define, and document reporting, analytics, and business intelligence requirements.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain dashboards, reports, scorecards, and data visualizations utilizing Microsoft Power BI, Epic Cogito tools and other enterprise analytics platforms.
- Create and maintain standardized, operational, strategic, and executive-level reporting solutions.
- Support self-service analytics initiatives through development of scalable and reusable reporting assets.
- Document report specifications, business rules, data definitions, development standards, and technical methodologies.
Data Analysis & Insights
- Analyze clinical, operational, and quality data to identify trends, patterns, opportunities, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations for leaders and stakeholders.
- Conduct ad hoc analyses supporting strategic initiatives, operational performance reviews, and organizational priorities.
- Validate, reconcile, and investigate data discrepancies across multiple systems and reporting platforms.
- Apply analytical and critical thinking skills to solve complex business and healthcare challenges.
Vizient Analytics & Benchmarking
- Utilize Vizient Clinical Database and benchmarking tools to support organizational performance assessment and comparative analysis.
- Develop dashboards and reports that track Vizient quality, efficiency, utilization, and operational performance measures.
- Analyze benchmark data and identify opportunities to improve organizational performance relative to peer academic medical centers and health systems.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret benchmarking results and support performance improvement initiatives.
- Support data validation, submission review, and ongoing monitoring of Vizient-related performance measures.
Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Analytics
- Partner with Clinical Documentation Improvement, Coding, Revenue Cycle, and Quality teams to support documentation improvement programs.
- Analyze documentation and coding trends to identify improvement opportunities that support accurate clinical representation and quality reporting.
- Monitor and report on CDI program effectiveness and key performance metrics.
- Support initiatives that improve data integrity, clinical documentation quality, and healthcare performance measurement.
Quality & Performance Improvement
- Support quality improvement, patient safety, and operational excellence initiatives through advanced analytics.
- Develop and maintain performance monitoring tools for clinical and operational leaders.
- Collaborate with quality and operational teams to identify opportunities for improvement and measure intervention outcomes.
Customer Engagement & Support
- Serve as a trusted analytics partner to clinical, operational, and administrative stakeholders.
- Provide consultation regarding data interpretation, reporting methodologies, and analytic best practices.
- Deliver user support and education for business intelligence tools, reports, and dashboards.
- Participate in enterprise analytics, governance, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Education Requirement:
Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, Business Analytics, Statistics, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Typically 1-3 years experience in developing reports, dashboards, visualizations, or analytic solutions
- Experience writing and optimizing SQL queries against large relational databases.
- Experience using business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI.
- Understanding of data warehouse concepts, relational databases, and healthcare data structures.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working within an academic medical center or integrated healthcare delivery system.
- Epic Cogito certification(s), including Clarity Data Model, Caboodle Data Model, Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, or related certifications.
- Experience developing Microsoft Power BI dashboards, semantic models, and enterprise reporting solutions.
- Experience working with Vizient Clinical Database and healthcare benchmarking methodologies.
- Knowledge of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), coding, and/or quality reporting
- Familiarity with healthcare quality measures, regulatory reporting programs, patient safety indicators, and performance improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting enterprise business intelligence and self-service analytics programs.
