Position Summary...

What you'll do...

As a Data Engineer III at Walmart, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures that support business analytics and decision-making. This role requires expertise in data modeling, transformation, and integration across various data sources, ensuring data quality and governance compliance. You will collaborate with crossfunctional teams to implement data strategies aligned with enterprise goals, leveraging advanced technologies such as Apache Spark and cloud platforms. Your contributions will enable efficient data accessibility and insight generation, driving continuous improvement and innovation within Walmart’s data ecosystem.

About the team: Global Data Foundations (GDF) manages Walmart’s Enterprise Data Lake, delivering trusted data that supports insights, analytics, and informed decisions across the company. The team plays a vital role in enabling AI by providing well-governed and cataloged data assets. This role focuses on Real Estate, Energy, and Manufacturing data, essential for decisions on store construction, remodels, energy investments, and EV charging expansion. Partners depend on GDF for reliable, consistent, and comprehensive data to make timely, confident decisions that drive business success.  

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support business analytics and reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data sources, ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance with governance standards.
  • Build and optimize data models, data lakes, and warehouses using SQL, Apache Spark, and cloud-based platforms.
  • Implement data ingestion and integration solutions leveraging big data technologies such as Apache Kafka and distributed storage systems.
  • Analyze complex data flows and propose improvements to enhance system performance and data accessibility.
  • Support deployment, testing, and documentation of data engineering solutions aligned with enterprise data strategy.

 

What you'll bring:

  • Extensive experience in data engineering, including data transformation, modeling, and pipeline development.
  • Proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Python, Java, or similar for code development and testing.
  • Strong knowledge of ETL processes, data ingestion techniques, and big data technologies like Apache Spark and Kafka.
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality frameworks, and regulatory requirements related to data privacy and security.
  • Ability to design and implement scalable data architectures, including data lakes and warehouses.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and modern data integration methods.
  • Demonstrated capability to analyze complex data flows and develop efficient data models.
