As a Staff Software Engineer - Mobile (Android) in the Digital and Customer Crew, you'll play a critical role in shaping the future of the CommSec App. Acting as the senior Android technical SME, you'll lead strategic engineering decisions, define architectural direction, and drive the delivery of scalable, resilient mobile solutions from concept to production. Using Kotlin, the Android SDK and modern frameworks, you'll create exceptional customer experiences while setting the standard for Android engineering excellence.

This is an opportunity to influence far beyond the code. You'll own the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle, drive modern architecture patterns, optimise API integrations, and enhance engineering practices that support delivery at scale. As a trusted technical leader, you'll mentor engineers, uplift capability across the chapter, and partner closely with Product Owners, stakeholders and technology leaders to deliver customer-focused outcomes. We’re interested in hearing from people who: 

• Have experience owning full lifecycle delivery (ideation → design → build → test → release → support), ensuring high-quality outcomes and seamless user experiences. This is a true full-cycle engineering role where driving products end-to-end and taking ownership from concept through to production is key.

• Have demonstrated expertise in designing and delivering scalable Android solutions, providing technical leadership and shaping architecture from concept through to production.

• Possess strong hands-on experience with Kotlin, Android SDK and modern Android frameworks, including Jetpack Compose, building clean, maintainable and high-performing mobile applications.

• Have designed scalable and modular Android architectures using patterns such as MVVM, Clean Architecture and MVI, enabling products to evolve and scale effectively over time.

• Bring experience building secure and reliable Android applications that leverage REST and GraphQL APIs, with an understanding of networking, caching strategies and offline-first experiences.

• Have experience improving engineering delivery through CI/CD practices, including tools such as GitHub Actions, and are passionate about enhancing developer productivity.

• Value engineering excellence and have applied practices such as automated testing, UI testing, static analysis and code quality standards to build reliable and maintainable Android applications.

• Have experience optimising Android application performance, observability and reliability using monitoring, analytics and crash-reporting tools to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

• Testing Tools: JUnit, Postman, REST Assured, JMeter, BlazeMeter

• Monitoring & Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, AWS CloudWatch

• Reliability & Security: Application Reliability, Secure Mobile Applications, Offline-First Applications, Caching Strategies.
