Team Manager, Data Engineering

We are looking for a Data Engineering Team Manager with at least 10+ years of professional experience to lead and develop a high-performing engineering team. This role balances technical leadership within our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem—specifically designing scalable Medallion Architecture pipelines—with people management, including Agile ceremonies and stakeholder coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Architectural Leadership

  • Design , Build, and optimize scalable ELT/ETL pipelines using  dbt, GCS , Python and BigQuery.
  • Implement and enforce Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold data layers) to support high-throughput data warehousing, BI, and analytics workloads.
  • Oversee the migration of legacy data pipelines from Pentaho to the GCP environment.
  • Manage data governance, security protocols, and operational performance across all GCP storage and compute services.

People Management & Project Delivery

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance management for a team of 6 to 12 data engineers.
  • Direct Agile delivery processes, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Convert business and product needs into technical roadmaps, actionable epics, and detailed user stories.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between business leaders, product managers, data analysts, and executive stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

GCP Infrastructure & Ecosystem

  • Storage & Analytics: Proficiency in BigQuery, Cloud Spanner, Cloud SQL, and Cloud Storage.
  • Compute & Orchestration: Expertise in GKE, Cloud Run, and Cloud Functions.
  • Messaging & Security: Experience with Pub/Sub, IAM, and Secret Manager.

Engineering Excellence & Methodology

  • Core Languages: Python and complex SQL optimization.
  • Pipelines: Strong experience with dbt and orchestration platforms like Airflow or Cloud Composer.
  • Architecture: Comprehensive understanding of dimensional modeling, data warehousing, and Medallion patterns.
  • DevOps: CI/CD automation using tools such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Terraform.
  • Legacy Systems: Familiarity with Pentaho or other legacy ETL tools like Informatica or DataStage.

Management & Agile Expertise

  • At least 3 years of experience in direct people management or technical lead positions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Agile frameworks, tracking velocity, and managing team workload.
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholder expectations while delivering complex, long-term enterprise data initiatives.

Preferred Experience

  • Professional certifications such as GCP Data Engineer or Cloud Architect.
  • Scrum Master certifications (CSM, PSM I, or PSM II).
  • Experience in FinOps, cost optimization, and managing multi-region cloud security policies in GCP.
