Full description

Mid-Senior Software Engineer (Java)

Málaga, Spain · Full-time · Hybrid

Why this role, why now

Real-money gaming runs on speed, trust and uptime — and QTech is the engine behind it for operators worldwide, wiring a vast network of game providers into regulated markets across LATAM, APAC and Europe. When our platform moves, millions of players feel it in real time. That's the bar we build to.

We're an AI-first engineering organization. AI coding and testing tools are part of how we work every day, not a side experiment — we automate what used to be manual and build systems that stay reliable by design, not by firefighting. We're also becoming deliberately language-agnostic, because when AI is part of how you build, what sets great engineers apart is judgment and systems thinking rather than fluency in any one language.

This role is Java at the core today. But we're hiring the engineer, not the language: someone who reasons through hard problems, builds clean, and moves fast as the stack evolves around them.

What you'll do

  • Build and grow the platform. Design and ship scalable, high-performance services at the heart of a system handling millions of gameplay transactions across regulated jurisdictions — and keep pushing it forward as new markets and partners come on board.
  • Build AI-first. Use AI coding and testing tools as a standard part of how you design, write, review and test — and help shape our move toward spec-driven development (SDD) and agentic workflows, where clear specs drive both the code and the tests.
  • Own quality. Write meaningful tests, automate regression, and help us push test cycles from days down to hours.
  • Design for change. Build well-bounded, extensible services and clean APIs that hold up as the product and the stack keep evolving.
  • Raise the bar. Run thoughtful code reviews, uphold engineering standards, and mentor engineers earlier in their careers.
  • Work across the org. Partner with Product, QA and the wider engineering team to ship software that's fast, secure and knowable.

What you bring

Must-have

  • 4-6+ years building production software, with real depth in backend systems.
  • Strong Java today, with solid Spring Boot / Hibernate — but the mindset matters more than the language: clean architecture, sound design patterns, and the ability to pick up new stacks quickly.
  • Hands-on experience designing and operating event-driven or message-based systems in production, with a solid grasp of the async fundamentals — idempotency, retries, dead-letter handling, event ordering and eventual consistency — and how to keep distributed workflows reliable when failures and redelivery are expected.
  • You know BDD (we use JBehave in parts of the platform today) and you're excited about where we're headed: spec-driven development (SDD) with agentic AI workflows, where the way we specify, build and test looks different from a classic BDD setup.
  • Comfortable with Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Clear, fluent English, written and spoken.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted development — you want to build this way, not push back on it.

Nice-to-have

  • iGaming, fintech, or other regulated, high-throughput domain experience.
  • Messaging and event-streaming platforms (Kafka, Kafka Streams, RabbitMQ or similar).
  • Experience across more than one language or ecosystem.
  • Microservices and RESTful API design.
  • Cloud-native experience (AWS).
