The Senior Data Scientist provides dedicated advanced analytics leadership within the Group Benefits Pricing, Reporting and Analytics team. The role focuses on enhancing actuarial decision-making through predictive analytics, machine learning, and scalable data solutions. It enables deeper insight into claims, pricing, and business performance while supporting the integration of AI-enabled tools and automation into actuarial workflows.
The role also supports cross-functional analytics initiatives across underwriting, claims, sales, and operations, improving the organization’s ability to leverage data for informed decision-making. Reporting and dashboarding form a supporting component of the role, enabling visibility and insight, but the primary focus is on advancing analytical capability and improving business outcomes.
How you will create impact:
- Develop and enhance predictive models and advanced analytical solutions to improve pricing accuracy, claims forecasting, underwriting risk assessment and actuarial decision-making.
- Leverage internal and external data to identify emerging claims trends, behavioral patterns, business performance drivers, anomalies and potential fraud indicators.
- Translate complex data and model outputs into clear, actionable insights that support actuarial, underwriting, claims, sales and operational strategies.
- Investigate, develop and implement machine learning, large language model and agentic AI solutions within actuarial and business workflows.
- Automate routine analytical processes and digitize workflows to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort and enable business professionals to focus on higher-value decision-making.
- Develop and enhance dynamic dashboards and analytical tools that enable users to monitor key business, claims and financial performance trends on demand.
- Partner with IT and data teams to improve data accessibility, centralization and scalability, and to support the implementation of analytical solutions in a production environment.
- Ensure analytical and AI solutions comply with established data standards, Model Risk Management requirements and AI Governance practices, including appropriate human oversight.
To join our team:
- You have a university degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science or another relevant STEM discipline.
- You have six to nine years of relevant experience in data science, advanced analytics or a related field, preferably within the insurance industry.
- You have demonstrated experience in predictive analytics such as machine learning and large language models.
- You have experience developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards, with knowledge of data warehousing, data management and scalable analytical solutions.
- You have the knowledge of insurance pricing, claims analysis, underwriting and actuarial methodologies, with Group Benefits experience considered an asset.
- You have strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to identify data anomalies, assess modelling limitations and develop practical solutions to complex business problems.
- You have the ability to translate complex analytical concepts into clear business insights and recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
- You have demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with actuarial, underwriting, claims, sales, IT, risk management and governance partners while managing competing priorities.

Expected salary range $83,774 - $133,774+
The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.
Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
